Is Using XIM Reportable Now?

Just wondering since these cheaters are in PC Quickplay lobbies now, it’s not very fun OR fair playing against M&K with aim assist :kissing:

No, it wont ever, XIM has been running console for years now. The meta for console overwatch has been XIM double hitscan/snipers with mercy db for like 3+ years now. reporting has done nothing to stop them.

Go ahead and report it. Its absolutely cheating.

They can just make a new account for free on console, should do what siege is doing where it detects it and delays the inputs you’re making by seconds.

XIM and Chronus should be insta-ban and they should put in a clause that in their TOA if a person is caught with it. They should get to WIPE the OS and file shred it. So they teach a lesson to Rotten folks that think they have to use it.

Im honestly tired of seeing it in this game. Almost every 5 matches I come across some :poop: using it.

“QQ leaver problem” - yeah its called BAN people for using cheat hardware.

Can I ask what XIM and M&K means?

XIM (a device you hook up to a console) allows people to hook up a mouse and keyboard (the M&K) on consoles where you normally can’t, it allows for more accurate and faster movement compared to a controller.

idk how kids play fps’s and mmos with controllers, it sounds like an awful time with all the innate limitations

I want to emphasize a specific problem however: Nearly all console FPS games use some degree of aim assist because of the inherent disadvantages of using a stick vs a mouse for aiming.

XIM devices more or less trick/spoof the mouse inputs, so the console still thinks a controller is being used (Translates the mouse input to stick input).

The result is mouse precision, with aim assist.

Its a lousy thing to do on console.

it might encourage blizzard to implement a hardware check i think rs6 is starting to ban people for using xim

And you are saying that players plugin in this devices to a console, also gives them access to Aim Assist? While still using Mouse and Keyboard?

That’s exactly what it does, yes.

The justification way back when was Blizzard did consider it cheating, but didn’t have any way to detect if it was a XIM or just a controller. So they asked Microsoft/Sony to do something on the hardware side (I don’t remember what) who proceeded to tell them to pound sand.

So TLDR, Blizzard does consider it cheating but it isn’t enforceable because they have no way of knowing whether it’s someone with a XIM or someone who’s just goated with the sauce on controller.

The ultimate solution to all of this is to stop putting aim assist on controllers. Aim-assist should be a singleplayer only feature in any modern game.

The ps5 can detect xim and cronus when a player tries to use them the computer inside the ps5 controller and the console will not except outside input. Not sure about the next generation xbox. Also the next generation of anticheat for games can detect them as well

no only fortnite does that

Not really a good way to implement this as there can be false detections.

XiMs basically translate M&K inputs to a controller, so the console can’t really detect the difference and just assumes it’s a wired controller, maybe if Blizzard were to work with Microsoft/Sony to trace Adapter IDs (Which is what I assume Ubisoft is doing for Rainbow Six) but it would only be a preventative for a month at best when they circumvent that protection.

Best course of action for Overwatch would be just to put M&K users in the PC Pool instead, and allow M&K natively, so it’s fair and you don’t have to use XiM, and try to stop XiM from working in controller lobbies, but like I said, with current ways to detect adapters on console, would only be a preventative for a short while.

Cheating is a cat and mouse game between both parties, so there will never be a end-all solution.

but they could go after the companies or encourage microsoft and sony to send a cease and desist order to the manufactures to stop making the adapters or face legal consequences which honestly xim shouldnt exist on a console

It’s not illegal though, so that would just be a empty threat.

The only reasons some companies are able to push legal challenges on modders is when they circumvent copyright protections, which is illegal in the States under DMCA.

Circumventing cheating protections is not illegal, as far as I’m aware of, in the States.

rs6 is starting to go after people who use XIM quite hard
