I don’t play “to get better.” I play to have fun, and hover in gold. I’m getting more, and more, and more people just expecting free carries and are repeatedly giving me more and more grief for not being godly good at ~1900.
Frankly I want to just hide it and go back to being a level like 200.
You’re not alone. The good news is that it sounds as though they’re going to remove them. The bad news is that we’re going to have to wait until OW2.

I’ve gotten shamed for being a silver border in diamond. Is that supposed to mean I’m awful at the game? You have to be GM now if you’re anyhing over level 600?
I’d like that from an entirely cosmetic point of view (as opposed to jerks being rude about how much time you’ve played the game for). I don’t like the more gaudy borders, if it was up to me I’d use the most plain silver one.
I wish the change for the border system would go through now, rather than when Overwatch 2 launches. The harrassment is obnoxious, I’m tired of being mocked for being a “gold border hardstuck in Plat”
I never understood border shaming. It’s the weirdest thing to harass another player over (some of it does get to the point of harassment). The game is 4 years old and has multiple game modes. Some people don’t live in competitive, they play, you know, other things like custom games or arcade.
It’s not like you don’t level up that way. And dont forget double XP weekends and the extra XP when in a group.
I receive my share of border bullying, even in arcade. Has gotten worse lately. It’s usually along the lines of “Bond is Level 100,000, still can’t carry”.
It’d be nice to have borders treated as cosmetic/unlockable items. Hero/event/achievement themed, just like player icons.
I think that border shaming is very good. People need to get out of their basements and live a little, before it’s too late.
The game has been out for 4 and a half years, people can have a very full social life and still have a high border by now
Sadly even in T500 you’re not safe, people will not make fun of your border but will tell you you’re just a random.
Edit: I was just told when playing on a low lvl alt in diamond “you don’t even know you’re throwing low lvl tard” that person was hardtuck mid diamond for years 
Nobody cares about your plat border + plat rank, until you start talking about smurf issues etc. And you should not be care about ppl in the internet.

I feel the same. I was a support main till I got my silver portrait andt han switched to a hitscans. So I am now silver-two stars Ashe with skill of maybe lvl 100 - 200. And people use it against me “but you are silver, why you are not good?” Cause I switched the role from something completely deffrent, duh!
Since I have a silver border but I don´t play comp much (so I am stucked in low rank), I can see a new vawe of border - shaming incomming, if I finaly start to focus on comp.
