In this video Ian points out that there was no mention of OW2 in the new OWL article. It just says “featuring a new 5v5 format”.
What if OW1 will go 5v5 at the same time league starts or even a little bit before that? And all of the different dev versions spotted on Battle.net are actually test versions of 5v5?
What do you think?
Here’s the article:
Many OWL Teams confirmed it will be an early build of OW2….
Change of plans maybe?
Maybe an unpopular take, but I wouldn’t mind waiting for OW2 nearly as much if we got 5v5 with all of the reworks right now.
Who knows with their crazy radio silence marketing plan? Maybe they decided to leave PVP under the current Overwatch brand, and spin the PVE off as a separate game under the OW2 brand?
It’s notable that they didn’t mention Overwatch 2. I don’t think they ever officially announced it would be played on Overwatch 2.
However, it would be another instance of incompetence if that were the case, because the information that it would be played on OW2 came from official sources. It’s just another thing that’s going to damage what little good will they have left. If the game was nowhere near ready to be released, then I don’t know why they thought it was a good idea to begin with.
Many things are currently happening in the background. The Blizzard Website got updated multiple times and reverted within the last 24 hours and OW2 was listed there as the first „Soon“ game.
Sussy sussy amongsy.
*cough sorry…
Me thinks something will be announced at the end of this week. Maybe.
Yep, things are happening, hidden in the shadows. Based on the secrecy, you think they are planning a burglary, not a game launch.
If they would go to 5v5 without reworks planned for OW2 then it would be kind of bad.
And they dont want to drop much away pve and pvp changes from each other because one is advertising to play the other, brining in the most people possible at once for healthy start of “new game”.
If they go 5v5 all the reworks will go live.
We won’t get new heroes but reworks aren’t as important as new heroes/maps.
Reworks are part of the package, doubt they split it at least for the game itself, maybe in OWL and close beta but for full game i dont think so.
All PvP content is coming to Overwatch 1. It’s just a question of when. I think they’ll patch in 5v5 and the reworks with current heroes and maps before OW2’s release.
Funny how there are some of us just as much in love with overwatch but for a different reason, and they get the special insiders because they are pro players and other financial reasons. Like understandably yes OWL helps them stay afloat in a manner of speaking… but also appealing to your fans will lead you a long way. Not all gamers want PvP competition… a good amount here of us actually. But sadly, they are not doing such things and may never will. (yes OW2 will be PvE based but how long are people willing to wait after giving OWL players what they want? We’ve been waiting half a DECADE for consistent PvE content and not seasonal)
I just wish for once the OW team stop feeding us the crumbs and give us an equal share of information for once… or something worth staying here for because my support for this game, and at start it was undying… is now thinning.
Didn’t a recent article/video say OWL with have the reworks, new heroes, and a new game mode? I don’t see how you can do that with OW1.
Remember when there were ladder bans different than league bans? Well, pros were up and arms pissed off because they couldn’t use live client with the same heroes as OWL. Yes pros do have their own client for organized scrims, but individually they need to use the live game a lot as well.
So by may 5th I expect the live client must match 5v5 regardless if it is called Overwatch 1 patch 1.7 or Overwatch 2 by the marketing reps, and ranked 6v6 to be gone. Maybe a beta/ptr in April to smooth things out.
It’s not called OW2 because it’s not OW2. It’s OWL played on the OW2 engine with an OW2 game mode and possibly OW2 reskins, and of course 5v5, which is what OW2 will do.
OW2 is a product that’s coming out much later, either end of year or in 2023. What we’re going to get this year is stuff based on OW2, maybe an OW2 beta (I hope), and stuff like that. They won’t call it “OW2” until they’re ready to officially release it.
My suspicion after all the conflicting news the last several months (No Overwatch 2 for 2022, then Overwatch 2 in 2022 for OWL) is that they are simply dropping the idea of an Overwatch 2 PVP. Overwatch 2 will end up being a completely PVE experience and the current Overwatch will simply be updated with the new engine, maps, heroes, etc.
They already said the current Overwatch would be upgraded to Overwatch 2 PVP for free anyway, so due to the feedback that Overwatch 2 PVP just feels like an updated Overwatch 1, they may have simply changed how “Overwatch 2” PVP is being marketed to people. In a way, this is kind of like the Ship of Theseus: At what point would updating a part of Overwatch turn it into Overwatch 2 PVP?
Counter unpopular take: i hope ow2 gets delayed as much as possible just to not play 5v5
