OW2 is just a PvE DLC and engine update for OW1. So yes, it’ll be going 5v5 once it launches.
When it shows a number 2 at the menu screen, right? Isn’t that truly the only distinction? Or am I forgetting something?
Pretty much. I’m wondering if the criticism on PVP everyone is giving with people like xQc saying Overwatch 2 is the “same game” is distracting from what the main content is suppose to be (the PVE). As a result, they have just decided not to refer to any of the PVP changes as “Overwatch 2” anymore going forward – at least not until something tangible is available to people.

That would be a pretty bad marketing. PvE is cool and all, but as they mentioned on a livestream, most players are here for a PvP game. Its the PvP changes that will most likely keep people paying in the long term and announcers coming to the OWL.
Almost nobody will be here for killing omnics 100 times in the same map. Most PvE people will want to play the history, customize and see the cinematics. Its not really sustainable to rely the success and marketing of the game on PvE only if they want to keep this game a live service.
I cant even think of the community reaction if after more than 2 years all they give us is 1 disconnected player on each side and a experimental patch on steroids, while decreasing event rewards. If this was 2020 then okay, but at this point its either OW2 or nothing.
Ahh gotcha. Hmm. I think they’re counting on the PvP rebranding to bring in new players along with old players they’ve lost. But anything is possible.
I doubt it. Why waste time on an abandoned game any further. Just update the engine to OW2 and call it a day, I know it actually isn’t that complex.
It’s a fact that OW2 was delayed, getting aspects of it patched in to the base game is the best we can hope for. I can’t see any reason you would be madder about that than about having to wait for anything at all.
I mean the whole concept of ow2 is a joke, doing a sequel on a live service game as soon as it hit 3 year mark cause you needed to cash grab.
