Is Mei hitscan?

Since people are exaggerating that Hanzo’s arrows are “practically” hitscan, the same thing should be said about Mei, even more so.

Projectile speed of arrows : 100 m/s.
Projectile speed of Mei’s icicle: 120 m/s.

The rate of fire is practically the same. Mei has 1.2 icicles per second. Hanzo needs 0.7 to charge his arrow and has 0.5 second shot recovery, adding up to 1.2 aswell. Anyway, most of the times Hanzo will hold his arrow charged much more than just 0.7 seconds. Also, his movement speed is lowered when charging.

Why I don’t see people complaining about Mei’s “hitscan” capability?

Because she doesn’t have a Spam Arrow ability.

The complaints relating to the hitscan potential reffers to all his arrows, not just one ability.

Mei cant oneshot you to the head. Her icicles are also easier to see.

Neither of them is hitscan. People are just always trying to find every possible excuse, even twisting facts, to justify their hate for heroes they don’t like.

Which happens with half a roster tbh.

She doesn’t 1 shot you. Her damage is actually balanced. But great points. Nerf Hanzo.

  • She can’t one shot you
  • She has a delay before firing
  • She needs to reload
let’s not talk about the dmg per 10s

This is actually a fairly good point. Despite mei having a faster projectile speed you can actually dodge/prepare for it better because it has better visuals.
With hanzo’s it s just oops im dead where did that come from.

The devs specifically referenced Widowmaker’s hitscan weapon when writing about Hanzo’s arrow speed increase in the patch notes, saying that the change was intended to make his performance more comparable to hers.

That is why people talk about Hanzo being near-hitscan. Him being near-hitscan was an explicit goal that the developers had when they increased his projectile speed.

Neither are hitscan, but…

Mei’s damage: 75.
Hanzo’s damage: 125.

Hanzo’s storm-arrow isn’t either, but it’s bloody close.

But he is not nowhere near “hitscan”. The goal was to make Hanzo an alternative viable pick to Widowmaker when it comes to Snipers, when he was not so great. This does not mean they wanted to tranform his arrow into a submachine gun and make him “near-hitscan”. This is even more ironic since other heroes such as Mei are even more “hitscany” than Hanzo.

This whole idea/argument is stupid to begin with since his weapon is clearly a projectile with an arch and is not even the fastest one in the game.

ignore players that think hanzo is still op

he has one of the lowest winrates in grandmaster right now

Mei has one of the fastest projectile speeds in the game; 120m/s. However it has a slow wind-up time, and a slow overall rate-of-fire. People hate on her a lot just because she can do 150 damage per headshot. Has the removal of her damage fallof made her overpowered? Nope. Not even close.

I talked about this too. The fire-rate is exactly the same and potentially longer for Hanzo.

That is a boon to Hanzo. Not a curse. The moment Mei hits that right click is the moment she commits to shooting. However, Hanzo can prepare and HOLD his shot as long as he needs to in order to ensure accuracy.

It would actually be a buff to Mei’s sniping ability if she could hold her right click and release it at will.

Edit: even more so it should be another indicator of his power vs her’s due to the fact they have the same fire rate in full spam mode but he has the much higher damage potential per shot.

Course not since her kit is based around spam lmao

Mei is not hitscan.
Her projectile has travel time (120 m/s, sound strange because i always read 88.88 m/s in any wiki, probably that’s a secret buff) but she has also a cast time of 0.4s where you can adjust a bit your aim, so her effective fire ratio is 0.8 shot per second. Also Mei needs at least 2 headshot for a 200-300 hp target, Hanzo instead with an arrow can take 250hp away
McCree has istant hit register and his fire ratio is 2 shots per second

Its also a bit of physics involving eyesight. Bigger things appear to move slower. Thats why giants in movies always look slow mo but are much faster than they appear.

So larger projectile means it appears to move slower thereby making people feel less like there being super sniped. So the size, colour and shape of the projectile play into why people think of it differently.

Also the only object to break this rule is a golfball. Idk why but if youve ever had a golfball thrown at you, they appear really slow but next thing you know youve got a black eye and have to refrain from hitting your friend with a bat

Mei’s secondary projectiles has

  • A larger hitbox
  • Cast time
  • Ammo.

Hanzo’s primary projectiles has:

  • Higher damage (can one shot most heroes)
  • Hold before shooting
  • Curve

They both work different.
Mei isn’t hitscan and neither is Hanzo.

But between these 2 heroes is Hanzo a bigger problem if you’d ask me.

He’s labeled as a sniper, being played like a generic DPS’er, but still has the damage output of a sniper. He can shred barriers, snipe and deal with enemies close to midrange. Not to mention his insta kill possibility with a critshot on most heroes.

I don’t think this is right.

Yeah. I guess maybe we just need bigger visuals to hanzos arrow? Idk im really just tired lmao
