I’ve played this game a long time and just wondering if I’m losing my mind or if this is an actual thing.
Sometimes it seems you go on a string of games where you have leavers, toxic players etc. Often seems to come after a loss (maybe after a close game). But then it just spirals.
Sometimes I try stepping away and coming back and this seems to help. I figured probably me getting tilted or something. But there’s not much I can do about leavers etc.
Is there a hidden SR thing or is it just bad luck or?
Easy wins, maybe a game where you feel like you had to do other peoples jobs to win… then a few crushing defeats where you can’t even touch point or if you’re super lucky can’t leave spawn.
An actual good game is a rare thing, win or lose.
It’s not hidden elo. I think it is your mmr is higher because you were doing well.
The mm gives you a game with people of similar mmr and maybe theirs is low because they we’re struggling or not warmed up, but when they go against you they aren’t struggling anymore.
All that sounds good if there weren’t a sr number. Maybe mmr is weighted more than sr match to match and that causes unbalanced matches.
None of that takes into account smurfs, boosters, derankers ect…
So basically do as little as possible to win. Unless of course you are smurfing, then feel free to spawn trap the whole team with battle Mercy.
After a winning streak, in the next game, look at top right corner of your screen. You see those teammates got killed over and over again? And no matter how many gold medal you had for the last few games, you suddenly realize you couldn’t do anything.
“Elo hell” is sort of real these days in the sense that below GM every game is full of hackers, smurfs and people who could fluctuate greatly in SR at any time. Basically what I’m saying is in a normal comp ladder, there would be steady progression to get to your true rank. In OW, unless you’re an absolute t500 god player, even if you’re capable of playing at a higher rating, you may never get there because of how random the games are.
Hackers and smurfs aren’t gonna hold you back if you deserve a higher rank, neither will bad teammates. People come up with “elo hell” to kind of help them cope with being bad at the game.
They obviously can hold you back if you are say capable of playing in mid masters or something but you’re stuck floating around in diamond because every game has completely random skill levels. The entire way to climb in a normal ladder is by beating appropriate skill level players. OW has an insane amount of smurfs and enough hackers that it can absolutely influence the rank you get stuck at if your skill level isn’t higher than 99% of players. Do you not get that? I already said if you’re a t500 god player Elo hell doesn’t exist for you, but if you’re trying to go from like 3300 when you would have the potential to be mid or high masters in a ladder w/o smurfs/hacking issues, it might be really hard to actually do that with the current state of the ladder. Go play some games in diamond and take note of how many legit diamond players you run into that aren’t new accounts.
I’ve played in diamond before. Most of the “smurfs” I end up facing are not impressive at all, I easily beat them. Maybe 1 in 10 smurfs are impressive, most of the time, not so much. Hackers are rare as heck too, definitely not gonna be holding you back.
If a player is truly a 3700 SR-level player, and they’re playing in diamond, they’ll win a majority of their games. They won’t climb instantly, but they’ll win more than 50% and climb.
I clipped this to show a friend because he didn’t believe someone he queue’d with from a OW discord lfg was hacking, like so many people hack it’s unreal.
Nope, I do get a handful per day, and have been getting report confirmations and been reviewing replays to get many clips of blatant hardlocking and walling. Stay delusional. Rest of your post is generic garbage everyone says.
Why though? You win you get SR. Why does the game want to make it harder for you? Games should already be harder when you have higher SR but if your MMR matches you with toxic/lose streak people then it’s obviously going to be much harder for your team?
That’s a non sequitur. I’m sure a grand master is able to solo carry in gold, but a person who’s mid-gold, but stuck in bronze, and now stuck playing support with bronze DPS, and bronze tanks, can’t.
The typical arguments are, “well, throwers, cheaters, smurfs, etc., - it all balances out” - yes, it will, eventually. But when you realize the number of variables at play (and its a hell of a lot more than 11 other players = 11 variables), you realize that eventually means 1,000+ games, and so for most, eventually never comes.
“A player that belongs in another rank should carry every game in a lower rank” - based on what? There is no evidence for this, no reason to believe it, it’s just a dogma around here. A professional Widow being able to stomp out bronze players, does not equal to a silver tier support being able to solo carry in bronze, by healing.
When people here try to argue against Elo hell, they start talking about grandmasters, and pretending like anyone stuck there thinks they’re GM level or something. You don’t even understand the issue.
