Personally, I don’t use Bastion much because I don’t find him that interesting to play; I prefer either more mobility or more tactics in my play. “Sit here and keep shooting” isn’t that fun for me.
More generally, I think that a lot of the problems with Bastion stem from its design being that of extremes. Bastion can be extremely effective, but it comes with extreme drawbacks. It needs either half the team to coordinate with you, or very good positioning (which it doesn’t have that much chance to get as it doesn’t have any mobility options). There really doesn’t seem to be a moderately effective Bastion; It either shreds the opponents or gets hardly anything done, depending on how well the opponent can counter it.
All this also makes it quite difficult to balance. What would probably be needed to make it more balanced would be to rein in its extremes a bit; Take some raw firepower away but give some survivability and/or mobility. Make it less dependent on the situation being just right, but reduce its effectiveness even when the stars do align.
True, but pirate ship was never “meta”. It was just a comp that was used on 2-3 maps at most. And now with Barriers being weakened a lot, it probably sees even less play
Ha ha ha… I tried it on my low ranked Genji account and they destroyed me even when my team was trying to help me. Maybe it is because I suck at Bastion… But they were genuinely shutting it down.
A pirate ship would still destroy lower rank games. It’s easy team coordination to run with high team coordination to counter. But people are so caught up in looking at the OWL that if they dont see something there, well then it must be even worse in their rank.
