Increased Amount of Lag Spikes Post Brigitte Patch

Hello,

I am still experiencing issues and I re-opened my ticket with Blizzard again. I’m hoping to hear back again with a possible resolution outside of the “Suggested” fixes that Blizzard has put out for connection issues.

Goober,

You still haven’t provided a WinMTR test to either support or us. Unfortunately unless we catch this in the act, we can’t really be sure what’s going on. You also used the generic IP addresses instead of the server IP.

This article has more information on what we need to help you. If you can use this test while playing a game while you’re actively having these latency spikes, we can try to find out where the communication breakdown is. Once you get the test using the IP from the network graph, post the results here and we’ll be happy to check it out.

During this session, I periodically would spike up to 100+ latency and experience rubberbanding and/or lose control of myself. Sometimes shots don’t go off at all and sometimes shots and abilities go off multiple times. I have had 5 Pharah rockets go out when I clicked only once. I also struggled to use a health pack. I repeatedly ran through it without using it. When I did not spike, I would experience normal gameplay. I am having a hard time isolating the problem. Is this a problem on my end/somewhere down the internet backbone/blizzard/etc? I am in the greater Los Angeles area normally with a 30ish latency to USW on Overwatch.

I disconnected four times from a competitive game because my ping wouldn’t go below the 2000-3000 range

I don’t think tracerouting the problem will help that much - I’ve been sitting next to my bf and we were playing together, sometimes one of us had lag spikes, sometimes the other, sometimes both. At one point we queud up for comp and the moment we joined I got kicked and he did not. Sitting next to me.

Not to mention that tracerouting would need the actual server IP of the game server you’re connected to, which for most people will not be something they’re able to since the Mods and the Blizz KB seem to lack the description on where to get the currently connected game server IP for… technically less abled people… (I’d guess it shows up when enabling the extended network stats ingame?)

From my network engineering standpoint, if this was actually a network/routing problem and not client load induced latencies, and since this has been happening to multiple of my fellows in different countries with different ISPs, it should show up in Blizzard’s network monitoring of their internal or edge routers.

I am going to be blunt. The ONLY issues I have are with Overwatch! Love Blizzard games but since the patch its become unplayable! I have literally talked to dozens upon dozens of other players who have the same issues. I have tried different accounts on different computers using different internet and it the same problem! On 1 v 1 no issues but when more heroes on screen it becomes unplayable. Whats worse Blizz keeps saying its not their fault. I literally can not play anymore cause the lag makes it impossible. How can they say its not them when so many people experiencing the same issues. If they dont fix this then I am done with Overwatch._

It has been happening to me too, way before the Brigitte patch. Lag spikes every 5 seconds. This makes Overwatch basically unplayable, and other games works fine. I haven’t been able to find any consistent solution. Sometimes restarting works(?)

I cannot believe this doesn’t have an answer yet. Basically with my situation everytime I enter an event IE junkenstein, retribution, rialo, I get halfway through the event and lag out and pop back in (takes like 15-20 seconds) half the time I’m dead and the events over. This has been going on for like a year and a half now. I’m seeing almost exactly the same problem here. I’m assuming the problem is that at some point during the match the latency spikes then goes back to normal. Why is it specifically events specifically halfway in. Nothing else at all lags in overwatch. Also I’m on xbox not pc or ps4, I tested both also and they both work perfectly. Anyone able to help?!
