*Important* OW2: About Phone Numbers

if someone doesn’t have a single phone in their household (spouse, kids, parents, etc dont have any either) they should sell their console or gaming PC for one :smirk:

And if you think they’re not aware of this major backlash about the phones, I think you’d also be wrong.

It’s not so much cheerleading as it logistically makes sense that they might not get it right on the very first try. It makes sense they may need to tweak and change things.

There are ways to fix most of the issues people are complaining about. The assertion that Blizzard is intentionally trying to alienate a major chunk of the player base is fallacious – even if you only look at it from the standpoint of: why would they want to lock out, say, those Legacy players, etc? It’s shooting themselves in the foot because that’s less people spending money in-game, which is what they need in order to continue updating Overwatch to begin with.

So even if looked at from a strictly cynical money standpoint, why would they want this many people this pissed off and unable to access the platform that earns Blizzard money?

“You can afford gaming, so you must be able to afford a phone” has to be the most boneheaded argument in this thread. It assumes that there are only two types of people in the world. Ones that can afford both, and ones that can afford neither. Guess what, some people can only afford one. And some of them choose gaming. It’s that simple.

You are moving goal posts.

Is it they have no phone at all or lack a cell phone? Make your mind up, because now it is just obvious you are trolling.

If a family has a home the likelihood of them not having a home phone is almost nonexistent, and in the cases where it is not a traditional landline it is something utilizing their internet service. AT&T’s new home phone services tie to your internet. So does Comcast, so does Cox, and several others. That is just in America.

At that point it validates that most people do not even have a cellphone for a number of reasons at that point if with their internet package they get home phone. So your point is moot. You can save the smug smiley, it adds nothing to your points and just proves you have nothing of worth to add.

And thank goodness I am not in the belief they do not see this backlash.

I am informing you that trying to imply “Cooler heads prevail” here is not going to work.

Backlash is never a controlled storm, it is a wild twister and only widens or narrows given how long the situation persists or escalates.

I never said there are no ways to fix the issue.

I never said Blizzard is intentionally trying to alienate people.

Nor was it implied.

I said that asking people to not believe something is intentional if repeated often is psychologically not possible. It is unintentional conditioning. Their actions have unfortunately put them here, where people do not trust their intentions or business models and trying to play the soft songstress for them is only going to get you ran through and looked at as an apologist.

if u scrolled up i already admitted my fault in not reading all of OP’s post, meaning i didn’t know about the pre-paid phone issues. i feel bad for users who have this issue. i thought u were just talking about people who were phoneless in general in the above reply.

to those who do have phones but only have ones that aren’t capable of SMS protect functions I express my deepest condolences and I wont forget your sacrifices as I play a competitive game mode that hopefully has less smurfs

On a side note, I bet in the long-term the vast majority of ppl will be able to play anyway since blizz has acknowledged this issue and has for ex started to make exceptions for those who live in regions where pre-paid phone services are most common (many pre-paid phones have SMS features anyway). I’m no blizzard shill so i know that they’ll be at least a few ppl who get screwed over but cant make an omelette without cracking a few eggs.

My husband can’t afford a phone that isn’t prepaid. He works over 40 hours a week. I don’t understand why you can’t comprehend this.
Please ow, make prepaid phones a thing because it’s the only thing my husband can afford.

Not me, it’s a requirement of my parole that i play.

I thought it was a joke honestly… I don’t like cell phones, I have had one in the past and just don’t like them one bit. I have a landline, Blizzard is really telling me I should refund Overwatch 2 because I don’t have a cell phone? Unreal

They aren’t taking Watchpoint refunds, I tried. I have paid 40 bucks for extras in a game I can’t play it’s LOVELY.

ETA: They refunded it after contacting them manually.

That’s not right at all. Honestly. I dont recall them saying s phone number was needed, let alone a certain type of number at all. If so, it was probably in small print somewhere and even then that’s messed up practice. I’m seriously hoping they resolve this because it is not fair to those who were not aware of this and it’s unprofessional to have long time players get screwed over like this.

What about people that have prepaid phones? You know, the type blizzard said wouldn’t work.

That’s only for the US to boot.

I was asked to enter a number but clicked it away with that I already entered one, on OW1.
I have the same phone issues as you do. Actually, research shows that over 70% of young people have a fear of answering phones.
