Imagine trying to distract us from the truth

Who? Lol so, so many people have claimed that Blizzard has appeased some vaguely defined person or demographic with the name change, but I haven’t seen anyone this applies to whatsoever.

Honestly, we had to have been on completely different internets when this change dropped… On this forum for example, discussions of the lawsuit were basically dead a couple days before the statement. Then it was announced Mccree’s name was getting changed and all of a sudden it was the No. 1 issue again. It wasn’t a smokescreen, it was a focusing lens.

Ok but then PR are telling Team 4 to pretend it’s a Team 4 decision if anyone asks.

And also pretend it’s because Team 4 care about their colleagues and friends that are sexual abuse victims.

Is this what happened?

Because Team 4 have taken responsibility. Tell me if this is what you believe.

Yes, we are to believe these PR staff are masters of deception, have complete manipulation of media but are also grossly incompetent.

The claim it ‘distracted’ us from Blizzard’s horrible workplace environment is honestly so bonkers I don’t see how anyone can think this seriously. The lawsuit was already beginning to generate less discussion (public outrage always has a really short lifespan) but the statement made it the hot topic again, everywhere online that I frequent that talks about Overwatch. The forums, reddit, twitch and youtube… It literally sparked a second wave of criticism and backlash against the company and renewed interest in the case, especially on this specific website. Are there hordes of people on Twitter applauding ActiBlizz for solving discrimination because of this statement? I haven’t seen them…

It’s frustrating and bewildering that some people actually claim this had a positive outcome for Blizzard in terms of pr/damage control, or even that it was intended to. I think anyone could’ve predicted the mostly negative response, team 4 just decided to do it anyway, I think Andy even said they knew the announcement would be controversial. Sorry just needed to vent.

I fully agree and I think more than anything, it’s disrespectful to team 4.

It’s essentially calling them liars that are happy to put a potential useless temporary boost in public image for the business above their colleagues and friends that have suffered from sexual abuse.

Just absolute, utter nonsense.

Actually 100% truth here. It’s amazing to me how few people actually have a sense of rationality.

those chimps never stop squeaking, such a victims holly pepegas…

You have any evidence for this? I’m pretty sure they changed mccree’s name because they felt obligated to. It didn’t distract me and a lot of other people cause we didnt care one way or the other. You have proof they are silencing troublemakers? I know they silence forum posts they dont like but haven’t seen any proof of what you’re sayin.

They were called out for threatening, harassing, and silencing the victims for speaking out against them. It’s on other threads. I’d get it, but I had a crappy day rn, so I don’t have the energy atm.

First of all innocent until proven guilty is the foundation of any democratic society.
And second why should we?
I mean we are not stopping to watch movies that involved Weinstein, even though it he has been convicted for doing really bad things.

I simply had good laught because both sides litteraly used same argument of “its just a game, why you care” over and over again. Haha.

I mean, we are not judges for this, and people who actually cared about whole thing would not forget it over some name change.

Most corporations dont, thats a life sadly.

I already quit for FFXIV. I just feel done with Overwatch/Blizzard.

The only people “distracting” others were the people sitting there arguing for weeks on end about how it is a PR stunt, performing the most insane non-sequitur I’ve seen become popular in recent days. They(yourself probably included) thought that this was a bad change “because this was a pr stunt.” Those don’t follow or connect to each other at all.

Maybe if instead of bickering about this minor change you did other things you wouldn’t have been “distracted.”

They dont even need to force the name change. Team 4 has no power compared to anyone ranking higher than them in the company. If any of the execs simply tells them to change the name, they have no choice. You cant not do your boss’s orders. This HappyTeabag guy drinkin that cool-aid. lol

Imagine being a nobody in a big corporation and saying “no” to the CEO when he tells you to change a characters name. Couldnt be me. Would end well for ya yes. But of course they worded in a way where it seems like a “good thing.”

Lol 4 has no power in this company. Far more powerful people are above them. Stop imagining them as their own studio :joy: whatever actibliz tells em to do, theyll do. Keep worshipping companies im sure it helps you sleep at night my G. But dont talk to me I dont have time for corporate boot lickers. Especially of corrupt chinese companies who abuse their employees.

Cause unpopular decisions that are easy social targets for social media completely remove the talk and focus point on what is going on and actually happening at blizzard. Like, no one was or has been talking about the scummy things that just happened recently so it shows things like this name change which is virtue singling that got twitters slacks in a twist worked to distract simple minded people. On BOTH sides, those that are for it or against it.

“Yaaaaaaaaaas queen blizzard is saved! Change that cowboy abusers name!”

or

“Reeeeeeee Blizzard is ruined they are changing the name!”

There has been very little nuance between any of it.

Calling others corporate boot lickers but says ‘yes master’ at anything their boss tells them to do.

This may surprise you but at a certain level of seniority, people are hired to make decisions for using their expertise and experience.

Nobody here thinks team 4 have more operational control than the CEO. That is stupid.

It’s just equally stupid to think that the CEO spends time thinking of schemes like these when he has hired an entire team of PR experts specifically to address issues like these and disrespectful to think that a team would lie about caring for sexual abuse victims and put their name to a statement they don’t believe in because a ‘higher up’ told them to when they don’t have to.

YOU might do that but some have a backbone.

and some have families to feed. surely youre not just gonna get yourself fired and have no food on the table for your kids the next month. these companies got alot of power over these people. especially those who literally moved there for work.

So you think right now with everything going on that they would fire an employee for refusing to lie about their feelings towards the sexual abuse of their colleagues?

Would that not be PR suicide?

I thought they were masters of PR? Why didn’t they fire all the staff that staged the walkout? Or that released the statement rejecting the apology from the CEO? Or do those employees not have families to feed?

Listen dude, saying Blizzard have a toxic culture and that people there have done disgusting things is something I can agree with - they will hopefully get what they deserve in court.

This conspiracy theory though is nonsense.

youll believe what u want. its np. but lets be honest no one there had a problem with the name change lol. they just told em to do it n they went along with it out of the kindness of their heart cuz in a way its a “good” thing. and the higher ups got their pr distraction. simple. you keep thinking people would be against it for some reason. the name change. but they have no reason for that lol.

yep the suit suits. the ones that probably never played a video games but are good at chasing trends. if another gaming company has success doing things a certain way im pretty sure your gonna have a ton of others chasing to do the same

all about the $$$$

i like video games and have played them forever. since way back during the 80s but like anything else it is a business and the goal of a business is to make as much money as you can, no matter if you step on people and do all sorts of the shady things

its the american way. capitalism

It’s a comedy of errors at this point.
