I'm sorry Rein mains, I get it now

I am a support main, but decided I wanted to practice some tank play in QP and boy was that an experience.

Red Team had a Doomfist and a Brigitte. I went Rein. I spent the entire match being stun-locked, tossed up into the air and knocked around like a pinball. Good times.

There is a tank who can handle this if playing Rein into this is overbearing.

I get that. Since it was just QP I wasn’t too concerned with swapping off. Just interesting to see the interplay. What I don’t understand though is why Rein can be stunned through his shield. That does not seem right to me.

Man decides to play Rein for the first time in quickplay, gets countered refuses to switch.

Wh… why would you do that?

It’s. Just. QP. I was more just experimenting with Rein. If this was Comp Mode, I would have switched. The point is that Rein can be stun locked and CC’d to the point uselessness. Even with his shield up. Which I found interesting.

You seem to get that those are the single two hardest Rein counters. That’s not indicative of average Rein play, as when Brigitte and DF are on the field, people simply don’t play Rein.

It’s not totally genuine to say this is what tanking is like. Or even what average Rein play is like.

I did not say “this is what tanking in general is like”. What I was implying was that I sympathize with Rein mains in the current meta.

How many players can not perceive the “shields” in Overwatch do nothing to stop melee attacks.

DF isn’t exactly current meta, is what I’m saying. That’s a niche comp that you don’t encounter very often.

So yeah, playing rein in the worst possible scenario is pretty bad. It’s like playing Pharah into McCree + S76 + Widow. You’re just gonna have a bad time.

It should.
(20 characters limit is dumb)

But it never has.

Reins have been charging through each other’s shields for so long … and I am sure people have been quick-melee through shields since forver.

What is stupid is players keep observing how it works and refuse to learn.

Adapt or die.

That’s odd because whenever I play Brigitte if the enemy Reinhardt decides to fight back I die very quickly. Good thing most of them are sissies and like to hold their Shield up while I pound on them.

This wasn’t a “nerf Brigitte” thread. I was simply acknowledging the frustration from Rein mains via consistent CC & Stun comb of Brigitte + Doom

Rein will squish Brig in a straight 1-on-1 slugging match - best Brig can hope to do is whip him away and retreat.

With both Doomfist and Brig pounding away, Rein is being ping-ponged between them. If Rein is out of position, it is Rein’s fault. Otherwise, it might be considered Rein’s teammates failing to back him up and I do feel sorry for Rein in that situation.

Then you need to tell Reinhart it’s okay to fight back when someone within range. One of the problems with most Reinhart players is they forget that they are not only are post to Shield their team but also punish anyone who comes close enough.

Your own description suggests you were playing Rein correctly. I don’t see the point of this post

Because the stuns are melee attack’s. All melee attacks go through shields.

Rein needs his own shield bash attack to stun enemies or knock them back. Since his shield is wider than Bridgette he should be able to affect 3 enemies.

Look at GM pick rates and consider the meta. Yeah, it’s not normal to run into Doomfist, but Reinhardt is played into Brigitte in virtually every game.
