There’s not even any need to cancel the match since the solution to the leaver problem already exists in game in other modes - backfill.

Competitive needs backfill

Having a competitive mode without anything in place to help a team recover from a leaver/disconnect is an absolute travesty. Blizzard needs to add backfill to competitive. If someone leaves or disconnects from a match, then someone else can load in to take their place. Have a “reserves bench” system in place for if the disconnected player reconnects (thus allowing for them to avoid the leaver penalty) and give them the option to rejoin the match at the start of a new map. Why drop 11 players back into the queue when you just have to add 1 to a match?

Make it an opt in thing, of course, but it would completely eliminate the problem of leavers and would also help reduce queue times.

Albeit, the should backfill and restart the match if the leaver was in the first minute (which cancels the game) without needing to opt in.

I don’t think we need an opt-in since this is specifically for cancelled matches, I.E. a leaver right at the start. It can simply restart the match.

There still would be the issue of leavers mid-match but that’s not really something that can be feasibly solved. Stuff will always happen.
