If McCree is renamed I'm out

You want to change the lore of the game, rename characters only to appease 5% of Twitter radicals that don’t play the game anyway. I assume the developer that got fired isn’t the only McCree in the world, so every other McCree that out there shouldn’t be forced to change their name because Twitter thinks it’s equal to Hitler. I’ve finished.

Okay, nice to hear.

But they clearly stated that the character was named based on that employee. If they never said the name was based on that employee, I think the perspective may have been different.

kinda hard not to know it, it’s not even a variant of the guy’s name, it is his literal name, letter for letter.

This sentiment is somehow more stupid than them renaming the hero.

It doesnt matter, none of this matters, it is just stupid.

I don’t really think someone should have the privilege of having a character named after them after acting how he acted, but what do I know :woman_shrugging:t2:

I don’t even see twitter radicals talking about this. Its more like blizzard saying

“Holy cow, we really screwed the pooch with the sexual abuse stuff! What should we do? What? 'Measurable changes to ensure the safety of our female employees! Dammit, Jenkins, you’re fired! Lets just rename McCree!”.

Then pretend it wasn’t. Very few people are aware of the fact and most of them are only interested in adding fuel to the controversy. McCree the character himself is blameless.

“Lmao why do you care? It’s just a name.”

“That’s it, I’m quitting.”

A name is a name though. Statistically speaking, you probably share the name of an awful human, so McCree being named after one would just make him normal. The idea would be to reclaim the name, and have McCree do cool stuff to help people forget about the other McCree.

Or they could rename him to get people like you to think Blizzard is doing a good thing.

People are like… “OMG his name is being changed. I can’t main him… I quit” Everyone else: “But he does the same thing with a different name”

They specifically named it after the person who worked at blizzard. Intent matters.

It would be like a holocaust denier naming their child a certain historical figures name(not sure if the forums censor it) versus someone who never learned about any history around WW2 naming them that name because they like the sound of it.

Edit: Also, this comment is kinda weird:

Why does it matter if I think a certain decision is good or not? I still have a severely negative view of blizzard after their recent actions, and this doesn’t begin to change it.

It’s a bit extreme to up and leave in a huff, but then again it’s also extreme to just change things about the game like this

It’s certainly lame that the name is changing, and for such a flimsy reason too

If intent matters so much, then his name should stay McCree. They didn’t name him to give him the powers of a degenerate; they did it because they wanted McCree to have a cowboy name, and now they’re throwing that intent out by changing it.

So again, its a lot like your name. You were given it because your parents liked it, but I bet you can google it and find some monster with the name. Does that make you one?

Uh, it is and that’s exactly my point? The intent does matter. Though, if we’re thinking of the same historical figure, rhymes with Rudolph, then its still different because Jesse McCree (the real guy) didn’t do anything even 1% as bad as what that specific historical figure did. While real McCree allegedly did something horrible, he’ll never have the power to taint that name. as much as the first guy did.

And there’s no way you can go through life without learning about that specific historical guy. At least, in America you can’t.

Also, its bad faith to go “nuh uh! What about Bad Historical German Man!” because no one is as bad as bad historical german man.
