Gee, I dunno, just how did game companies manage to market their games to potential customers—new and old—before the advent of streamers or even YouTube/Twitch/TikTok? And for over 40 years, too, a time when the industry even managed to grow ever bigger and bigger. Even in the 2000s, when the dot com boom was reaching its peak, magazines were failing, and DVDs were on the way out, game companies’ marketing divisions still got their message out through all the traditional advertising avenues and got their products sold. It’s truly a wonder the industry can survive at all without glamorizing and employing the use pseudo-celebrity “influencers”—literally relying on all the immature antics of these kids, both to get people’s attention and showcase anything new or remotely interesting, and as one of their main sources of “trusted” feedback for anything.

since when was high ping a problem in a PvE game?
When your abilities don’t go off on time or you get hit by things you shouldn’t. Dragging your team down and expecting to be hard carried is a problem.
if the AI isn’t hitscan with aimbot it probably is possible to play on a high ping
it’s a PvE, you’re not timing your Rein shield to deny the enenmy Shatter and need lowest ping possible
Is that not what 90% of players do in PvP?
Time spent shielding is time not spent swinging. I assume you’ve never played anything remotely hard where there are damage checks and mechanics where everyone needs to do their part.

Still, those comments contradict each other.
I’m all done arguing and wasting my energy pointing out things in a concise and constructive manner for them.
They tell CCs what they’re not allowed to say, and critiquing the OW team is not on that list. It’s not complicated.

The key word is effectively.
Marketing without influencers today in an entertainment business with a highly competitive market is absurd.
Marketing has changed dramatically particularly in the last 20 years.
You can have your own preference on whether you like the status quo or not but the reality is word of mouth (which was the most effective channel even in the Madison Avenue glory days of advertising) has moved from just friends to including influencers for many, many, many people.
You may not like the personalities but others find a personality they resonate with and appreciate it’s not the company selling them the product but someone independently commenting on the product.
And it’s not just to sell their product, look at how many kids want to emulate their favourite streamer on their main.
I can’t see a single viable alternative.
I agree with OP. Only content creators should get into the beta. Actually, only content creators should be able to play Overwatch 2 and all games in general.
I just want to watch other people play games and especially ads. I love those.
Maybe like, a year or so after the game has been out and everyone else can tell me how to play it and what to do then they can let “normal people” play it.
I would say that high level players should get the beta, and a lot of them happen to be content creators. So yeah.
Probably by knowing how to read, which is a qualification you clearly don’t have.

No, I’m looking at PvE with PvE glasses, where I’m not even that much of a tryhard. You’ll never catch me chasing the first page of the leaderboard or going for world firsts or optimizing speedruns. I still expect a challenge that I can’t autopilot through.
but playing on high ping isn’t autopilot, that’s playing on high ping, and despite delay and lags the delay can be roughly timed and be still playable
If it’s playable while lagging like crazy the content isn’t challenging enough. This isn’t a turn based strategy game.

it takes awhile but if you practice reading more often (try 3-4 times a week to allow brain to grow) you’ll understand how you completely read the blues statement wrong
It’s not easy, I have a lot of non English native friends and it’s surprising how often they misconstrue something
