If they legit belong in silver, then they’re not going to climb to diamond anytime soon and the stream would be pointless simply because they don’t belong in diamond.
If it’s a higher rank player, then it isn’t that hard until they get close to their actual rank, which has been proven numerous times already, I’m only in high gold and I can easily stomp on silver players.
Got a copy from humblebundle, now I didn’t play Lucio or Zarya only but I did do random teammates/solo queue only and I did switch heroes up a bit (especially in placements since I had to off-role due to bad DPS instalocking, 2 of which I lost due to teammates throwing on purpose which made me end up at 2.9k instead of 3k).
MrMurloc#21949 (can check him out at overbuff if you like to see how I managed).
I litterary started to play with golds after the first or second game and with plats shortly after in QP (in placements first game was with gold/plats, rest with plats or higher) so I doubt you find too many “amazing” players down at those levels, I have however been in silver once upon a time when I first started playing this game and it’s to say the least the most frustrating rank since people on all roles are well, they don’t think or play as I expect them to which makes it hard.
Like if you get good with Zarya and Lucio you will litterary be out of silver in one day of grinding since those can enable the mediocre teammates to not die all that much while still allowing you to get 1-3 picks every fight not to mention huge ultis that can win games alone. Zarya is extremely hard to play and requires a lot of practice and even though you can get away with playing lucio mediocre there’s a HUGE skill gap between a mediocre/ok lucio and a good one.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention… Another reason I decided to grind cancerous QP just to do placements on an alt account was because I’ve bought a new mouse and mousepad while also doubling down on DPI (400 to 800) and halfing sense (from 8.34 to 4.17) so I wouldn’t ruin it for people on my main account.
Yes, I’m a flex player with focus on DPS so… And since I have new gear getting adjusted to a hero I often end up playing on my main seemed like a smart idea.
However I think I did 5 zenyatta games in total, 3 in QP and 2 in placements in which I executed him like if I were JJonak, these were later into the stage so the people I met was plats/diamonds so not like I grinded those stats vs bronze people.
Yes, I have enough hours and experience with both to flex them at plat without any issues really. So if I dedicated time to those two alone and really practiced I’d be able to take an account to diamond with that combo, especially if I focused on getting my Zarya game really solid.
I am a Silver/Bronzer and play Reinhardt / Orisa / Lucio depending on the situation - My profile is open to all and on overbuff, silenthill#11701
I do not believe in the SR conspiracy and that if one is good, s/he plays at a skill level above where they are, they will climb
I believe that playing a fair number of games i.e. grinding is part and parcel of climbing because the law of averages dictate that one would encounter both good and bad team mates & opponents and that in order to order to get better i.e. improve; one has to play to learn so as to get better in the game
To me getting better in a game means that:
a) one knows the maps well enough to get to health packs instinctively, where the best positions for ambushes are; where different locations favour certain characters and party composition (both Blue and Red Team) and where to position oneself i.e. “game sense”
b) Better knowledge of one’s chosen characters’ strengths, weaknesses, counters and the instinctive strategies and timing of when to and how to use the abilities especially the Ultimates i.e. Ult / power economy
c) Muscle memory and hand-eye co-ordination improvement (variable based on innate ability, age) from structured training vs bots (e.g. 1v6 Ana / Lucio on Hard) or just playing a lot of games over the course of time
So, given my preface, my take on this is that those who are able to climb the SR ladder with seemingly little effort (Myth: no such thing as no effort. Truth: effort is always required, although variable) are those who already are innately players with skill levels higher level than Silver / Bronze. Hence, the need for them to play under their actual ability i.e. throw / troll / smurf to get to Silver / Bronze… (Solution: Get players like me to do their placements and they automatically would start off at Bronze/Silver ).
So that is why, i agree. The Bronze/Silver to GM videos by established GM/Top500 players/streamers are somewhat of a farce.
For true Silver to GM/Top500 climbers, it is still attainable. See, my Preface point 3 & 4 and the players have to believe in point #2.
There are a few legit Silver to GM players in this Competitive sub-Forum.
LeaF, is one of them and is a great young man:
There are a few others but off the top of my head, LeaF made the deepest impression on me because of his patience; he knew that climbing from Silver to GM was not going to be a short term process; his dedication to improving himself by practising countless hours and playing hundreds, maybe even thousands of games; and his mental fortitude because let’s face it, it is almost impossible not to get frustrated by losing streaks and he gritted his teeth through it all.
So, the video which was requested for, may actually take like years to make. It is not going to be some hour nor couple of hours long project.
I would end off by adding another observation and that is that in my humble opinion, just because one is able to attain a certain OW Competitive Tier Rank and SR for 2-3 characters, it does not mean that that player is going to achieve the same results with another character especially if the heroes are from different categories.
E.G. A player using Moira to breach the Silver/Bronze ceiling to Gold tier may not be able to do so with a Reinhardt and vice versa.
It is my belief that people innately excel at certain characters and perform with mediocre results playing other heroes. It is all just part of how we are designed as a person and as a player of this wonderful game.
I’d be willing to take on this challenge. I peaked at 3700 SR last year. For the most part I’ve been inactive outside of playing a few games in platinum/diamond with my girlfriend, or some games in the lower ranks to help save a few of those stuck down there.
As far as the logistics of streaming, I’d have to get that figured out. But for now you can add me if you’d like and I can give you some commentary on your gameplay.
