I think this game has finally died inside me

I began playing overwatch in October of 2017. Hard to believe, but for 4 long years I’ve loved overwatch. There was a point where I pretty much breathed this game.

I met so many friends. Had so much fun. Grew up a lot. All with this game.

And even when it looked bleak for it, I just wanted it to get better. I had so much hope that it would, too.

But for awhile now, I’ve been feeling like I don’t have that spark anymore. But this recent patch truly made me realize… I just don’t care anymore. At all.

With all the recent events around this game and the state of the game as a whole for the past year and a half, it’s just becoming more and more apparent that overwatch has died.

Here’s the thing. I always told myself that when overwatch 2 came out, everything would be okay. Finally overwatch would be revived!!..but, when you really think about it…

The people who make such terrible balance patches constantly, the people who decided the last hero should be a damage, the people who decided to cut content from the game to make a sequel, the people who decided to completely rework the way the game functions… we’re all expecting that suddenly when 2 comes out these people are going to make GOOD decisions??

We have no evidence of that, and probably will never get one. I don’t know why I would bother investing myself with this game. It’s just incompetent choice after incompetent choice after incompetent choice. Nothing seems in direction or coherent anymore.

The game had so much potential and it feels like a tidal wave of bad decisions murdered it cold. For those of you who still have hope, I pray you press on and find a greener side, a better side, the overwatch you always dreamed of…

“Step 8, reznov, overwatch 2!”

“For you, Mason! Not for me!”

Sayonara, my friends. May we all continue to be heroes in our own ways.

I can barely get through a game of overwatch. Blizzard has completely ruined what made it special for me. It’s not fun, it feels way too controlled and Just leaves zero room for exciting moments for me.

I’ve switched completely over to DOTA 2 and it’s staggering how much better of a game it is despite being out before overwatch. They are constantly adding new things that, unlike overwatch, feels refreshing thousands of hours later.

Liking your post just for this reference.

One of the most underrated CoD campaigns.

Also my personal favorite cod campaign. Between story, characters and mission quality I don’t think it gets beat.

This.
So much this.

  • The game is becoming more FPS focused
    • This means that characters will be more bland in ow2
  • Blatant favoritism has made this game unbalanced
    • Why nerf Tracer when you could add Brigitte, right?
    • Why create a diverse roster if McCree is the only dpser allowed to be viable.
  • Balancing primarily around OWL, which is an entire different environment, would only create an unbalanced game for regular players, even for those in GM.
  • Added role queue to deal with goats.

I expect OW2 to be massively unbalanced because of this.

I’m starting to wonder what the difference is between the people who have lost their love and passion for Overwatch and those of us who haven’t yet. Like there’s gotta be a common factor.

Is it skill? Do the people who are lower ranked simply enjoy the game more? Does the better you get at the game have a direct negative impact on how much you actually like the game?

Is it the type of player? The hardcore competitive people get frustrated over things like balance and metas while the casuals happily just play however and whatever they want, just going with the flow, not a care in the world, such things as balance and metas not affecting their enjoyment?

Is it an ego thing? The people who want to shine bright and sit atop everyone, glowing with a sense of self-importance now finding that they fade into the background in a game like this and get annoyed that the balance team limits their heroes, meanwhile the humble, laidback people don’t care about individual moments of glory and just want everyone to have fun?

Like what is it? Why do some people just hate the game while others, playing the same exact game, just continue to enjoy it even nearly 6 years later?

This dichotomy is driving me crazy. I wish I could gather everyone who still enjoys the game and everyone who doesn’t and analyze to find what is that seperates us.

Can’t remember the last time I had a fun match of Overwatch where I gave it my all

I used to play this game every single day for hours and I was so excited to play it when I woke up, legit like a little kid lmao

This went on from 2017 to 2021 where I now still keep up with the game in terms of news but the only time I play it is for skins

There’s simply better games out there that are less frustrating, receive more updates and more importantly, receive communication from the devs.

I think we all can relate to this in a way.

I just dont love myself enough to stop playing. I do play a lot less tho.

I didn’t really mind these decisions. And when I think about it, they are mostly details to me, except maybe the content delaying one.

The short version:

I should be able to pick the game up anytime I want, and have a fun time. Not lose 20 matches, and win 1, because teamwork is punished.

I shouldn’t have to play like and android on red bull to win, or climb. Being skilled should never be rewarded with bad teammates, along with adept enemies.
No I don’t want to carry, it’s not fun.

For me personally, I guess what really caused me to fall out of love was, as you said, getting better. Because as you do, you see more and more flaws with the game from a competitive angle.

But I’m also someone who enjoys the game casually. That said, I find it hard to enjoy when there is little to nothing actually being put into the game. I don’t have fun playing because playing against things like echo, tracer, hook, hack, ect. Is not fun and you don’t feel rewarded in any way for playing.

At the end of the day, I believe that we all enjoy the game for different reasons, and we therefore fall out of love for different reasons. But for me, I just think the devs are showing nothing but incompetence. True colors show under pressure, and they’ve done nothing but make terrible choices since they’ve been under pressure. Hopefully this helps your question a little.

True. It’s just hard for me to care anymore. Whenever I actually try in games I just get frustrated with the state of it and that’s no fun at all.

I even got past that point a little while ago. Halloween Terror 2021 is the first event since 2018 where I’ve missed skins simply because I didn’t care enough to play. As someone who just a year ago was collecting every skin religiously… yeah. That’s kinda sad.

This is another major point that makes me lose interest in this game. It’s so much worse than its competition despite having the easy potential to be so, SO much better.

Same. I recently uninstalled for the first time ever since release. I don’t want to feel tied to Overwatch if there’s absolutely 0 reasons to be tied to it besides that I once liked the game. There’s literally 0 effort being put to keep the game alive and so many merch / shows possibilites that they just ignore.

I have become the thing I used to hate - a leaver. Games are so bad. I really want to play tank but I find it hard to even get half way through a game. It is just misery. I keep coming back and I keep leaving more games than I stay in and really should stop trying to play. I just keep searching for that 1 good game that used to be not so hard to find but is now so elusive.

This last patch got to me too. The number of tank players left in the game has obviously become ridiculously small with even support queues going up and what do they do? They buff 2 of the most anti-tank DPS for no reason - nobody asked for those buffs.

And they refuse to adjust others like Ana who just make tanking miserable game after game and who has been a top pick for as long as I have played - since 2019.

The writing has been on the wall for tank players for a long time now and the lack of dedicated tank players has lowered game quality to a, dare I say, garbage level. The burst damage and CC are so out of control that I really don’t see why any tank players hang around at all. I’ve recently been uninstalling during the week and installing on Friday for the weekend but last week I didn’t even bother installing again until SUnday afternoon and uninstalled on Sunday night.

It’s sad and the balance team needs to be replaced or OW2 is dead before it begins. The way they released sombra with her OW2 rework should have gotten people fired for incompetence - they thought she was balanced. The fact the OWL players refused to play with her should have been an embarrassment to the entire OW2 team - but they just don’t care any more either I suspect.

Tank mains seem to hate this game the most for obvious reasons.
