It’s just factually incorrect to have them always refer to “anything below diamond” as a low rank. They will generalize by saying “this works in low ranks” and having it apply from bronze-plat is really, really, stupid.
The same strat you can pull in silver isn’t always, across the board, going to work in high gold.

In my opinion, Masters and below is low SR. Heck, even low GM gives me an aneurysm when watching it. Either way, it’s just semantics. If you want to define “low” as below average, then it’d be mid-gold. However, I like to look at it usually as 4k SR being the separator. After that landmark, skill starts to go up way faster compared to the actual number. The difference between a 4.4k player and a 4.3k is about the same as the difference between a 3k player and a 2k player.

I agree. If they wrote “lower” I’d be fine as every rank is lower than GM. But being above average, or even top 20%, can’t be considered low.

Lower than you, not low.
A member of Mensa can say someone with an IQ of 130 has a lower IQ than them but nobody is actually going to think that 130 (top 2.1%) is a low IQ.

GMs dont consider below diamond “low rank”. They consider anything below gm to be “low rank”. I agree that its obnoxious, though. Im a diamond player, but i still respect the fact that there are some very mechanically gifted players in plat.
When i run into one of those, i can usually still stomp on them. But thats because my mix of game sense and mechanical skill is better and because i have a deep hero pool and can beat them using one of their natural counters. I wont try to straight up mirror match a very gifted widow and think i can out-mechanics them just because i am higher elo, but I can shut them down by playing sombra, for example.
At the same time, im a hitscan dps main, so i know i am well above average even for a diamond player mechanically. So i roll my eyes when someone implies that my mechanics arent good, because i am “only diamond”.
Ive completely stomped on gm players in mirror matchups in quickplay games. Yea, i know they werent tracer mains, but it still proves my point that just because they are gm, doesnt mean their mechanics are better than mine.
Honestly, the main reason i havent climbed more is because i just dont play this game very much anymore and take some long breaks from the game (causing my skills to rust and by the time i play enough to get my mechanics sharp again, i get bored again and take another long break, lul).
So if someone uses “you’re only diamond” to try to rank shame me, i just laugh at them

I started off my first season (2) in plat, dipped down to gold during season 3. Since then I’ve steadily climbed. With a peak of 3998 during a Rein binge on the heels of brig’s bash nerf leaving people unused to him. I have thus played in a very wide range of the game’s SR.
I have, at every single rank, seen people mock others with silver borders as being “hardstuck [rank below theirs].” Plats saying “lol, hardstuck gold”, Diamonds saying “enjoy being hardstuck plat, scrub”, and GMs saying “sick of @$#!@ hardstuck masters in my games”.
I am willing to bet there’s some OWL player out there who’s enough of a jerk to call out some streamer and say “he’ll never make it, he’s some n00b hardstuck Top 500”.
Everyone who is a snob considers their rank “high”, while those of the casual filth below them are “low rank”.
Basically it’s moving the goalposts via collective A-hattery.

Anything lower than your rank is low ranks.
Anything higher than your rank is high ranks.

If your playing below mid/high diamond your really not playing overwatch yet the game is just completely different at that point so I can see why people feel that way
Kids playing football on a Sunday morning is still football even if they play it very differently to the pros.

According to the lastest distribution, I see things like this:
- Bronze: Low level
- Silver: Below average
- Gold: Average
- Platinum: Above average
- Diamond: High level
- Master: Top tier players
- GM: Peak skill
- Top 500: Bragging rights
Silver-plat is what you talk about when you talk about the majority of players. Those three ranks house 80% of the playerbase. So yeah, if you are diamond, you are on the top of the pyramid. There are people above you, but you are already part of the elite.

i can beat a gm tracer 2/10 times in a 1v1. my tracer is probably dia on a good day. i could never 1v1 a gm player as soldier unless they were like junkrat or something. do you really think you are playing the same game that they are?
if you are hitting every shot, do you not take advantage of poor positioning decisions? You don’t bully them into the floor for their mistakes to put your team ahead?
it’s only bad because someone else does it, but not when you do it
I’d, personally, classify ranks as
Bronze/Silver: Low ranked
Gold/Plat: Mid Ranked
Diamond or higher: High Ranked
GM probably just need their own classification, though.
Agreed man. But think of it this way, if you are a Diamond then Bronze, Silver and Gold will appear like low ranks to you too.
I would say anything below plat is low ranks, plat is average.
You already made the mistake and care about what others think about you

like seriously, stop.
You forgot Pro Level: Gods
The higher in rank you go the more compressed SR is. A 200 SR difference in GM is more significant than a full rank plat and below.
Also the majority of the playerbase is pretty casual. Anyone who takes the game seriously could get to diamond which is why it’s generally considered the baseline for where balance actually matters.
its simple.
if you aren’t t500 or above, we are all trash
Being in masters is the worst. Even on west coast if you queue before noon you’re going to often get put in a diamond game and expected to carry or get GMs (who used to be t500 and are about to own you) or even OWL players in your game and I’ve gotten such comments as “uh, can we not have the masters on DPS, can you heal instead?” (I got to masters play DPS and off tank, I’m probably plat at healer) and some guy in match chat saying “can we agree to draw since we got masters players and it was obviously a bad queue?”
