I keep getting suspended and I don't understand why

So I don’t really know where else to put this as I believe the Overwatch reddit takes these sorts of posts down and blizzard refuses to answer any of my tickets.

So about a month ago I said something I probably shouldn’t have and got silenced for two weeks. Fair enough, I deserved that. Soon after this I got suspended for two weeks, so I made a ticket asking why before I learned of Blizzards policy of automated responses. So I waited out my suspension which really sucked but finally it came to an end. I had access to my account for NOT EVEN 24 HOURS before I got re-suspended FOR A MONTH. Naturally I made a ticket asking for help / understanding and they doubled down saying, and I quote,
“Following a review of your case, we can confirm that the evidence presented was correct and that the subsequent action taken was appropriate. Our decision in this matter stands and will not be overturned.”

So what could I have done in 24 hours that warrants a month long suspension?
“For privacy and security reasons, it is our policy never to reveal details regarding account investigations beyond those which are provided in the original notice mail.”

I feel like the next time I login I’m going to get suspended for even longer or might even lose access to my account. I don’t know if Blizzards new report system is automated and people are abusing it or if some of the GMs are going on a power trip or maybe I did say something royally messed up and just don’t realize. Either way I’m getting overly frustrated and I refuse to spend another cent on this company (I cancelled my World of Warcraft subscription) until something changes.

Edit: If you’d like screenshots add my discord (Its just Skylom)

Oof. I don’t think you’ll get much love here, OP. The community isn’t kind at all with these sort of posts, even less when you admit even a little bad behavior and justified prior punishments. Prepare to get villified, sadly enough.

I have mentioned several times in the past in these posts, there is no recourse and no one/no where to talk about getting punished. The only thing you can do is come here, vent your situation, get flamed at, and take your lumps.

Keep sending short, courteous tickets asking for the evidence of why you were punished. You’ll probably have to do this multiple times to get a non-bot response. You should get that information of why you were wacked eventually.

I’m all for not spending any money blizz products, that’s honestly the most impactful thing you can do in response to feeling falsely punished.

Is there a reason you won’t just make another account?

Edit: btw, we’re not allowed to talk about punishments here either. Coin-flip chance this post gets taken down sooner or later. Gives you that warm, cozy feeling inside right? Blizz’s CS is maddening to the max. This is not uncommon for online games, if there’s any silver lining here :weary:

Yeah I’m well aware I’ll probably be jumped by Blizzard fanboys in this thread but I don’t really care, even if a dev proves the ban was justified I’m chill with that. I mostly just want reassurance that as soon as I login a month from now I won’t be immediately banned, because that’s how it’s beginning to feel. The worst part is that after my bot responses I did get a GM to look at my ticket but they just said it was justified, I have gotten zero information as to why I was banned. They didn’t even tell me if it was for abusive chat or griefing. As for why I’m not making another account is that I’ve been playing Overwatch since day 1 and have almost 900 hours logged, dozens of gold guns, and almost every original cosmetic from the base game.

Unfortunately it’s a combination of an automated report system + the fact that previous punishments don’t get cleared quickly at all.

So basically you got a ton of reports (justified or not) shortly after the first punishment and it just added onto the volume. A silence/ban doesn’t reset you, if that makes sense.

My advice is to play a lot of quick play games, and do NOT type anything at all other than “well played, team” at the end if you win. You need to get a volume of games where nobody reports you.

This actually helps a lot, appreciate the advice friend. I did do a decent amount of solo q competitive during my 24 hours so it makes sense. I’ll probably just find a 5 stack and spam QP for a couple of weeks, still sucks though :frowning:

Mmm I thought so, I wouldn’t want to let go of that kind of account either.

Keep sending tickets asking for the evidence. Short as possible, nice as possible. Sorry to hear a human did look at it and you’re still in the dark, thats tragic stuff.

The community here has a blind eye about this, even tho these sort of posts pop up on the regular. Its infuriating af to me.

You have my sympathy and I hope you get a reason for this crap situation you’re in. If people come to this thread and say “ha-ha you got what you deserved,” tell em to take a flying leap, cause eff them tbh

Also against the forums CoC so good luck wherever you’ll go next I guess

It looks like my account will be unsuspended tomorrow morning, still no response from Blizzard  I wanna play tomorrow but I also feel like I’m just gonna get automatically suspended again. Blizzard really does have some of the worst customer support in the industry.

Turn voice and text chat off, completely. Don’t turn it on if someone tilts you and say something out of anger. Next ban will probably be perma.

I’ve been dealing with this problem for the last year as well and I don’t get it.

I’ve been playing overwatch since release and put in too much time since season 25 or so until now.

I have NEVER had a SINGLE PROBLEM like this nor known anyone who got banned until 2023 or maybe late 2022.

At first I thought maybe I was coming across as harsh in games, simply because I"m focused on the gameplay, so I tried being more positive… That didn’t work.

I completely stopped comms aside from VC when with friends, that didn’t stop it.

I added in not using voicelines, that didn’t stop it.

I stopped EVERYTHING completely other than playing the game, THAT DIDN"T STOP IT!

I’ve been submitting tickets on it with regularity and even follow up on them and the best I get is a link to the rules, which are extremely subjective and some common behaviors would violate that subjective nature in my opinion… not in voice chat in a comp game? THat’s sabotage and ruining other players enjoyment IMO, a reportable and bannable offense by their rules… but that’s not against their rules.

I keep asking for something to be explained and I never get an answer.

I just want to know what the point of punishing is if the person being punished doesn’t know what they did wrong?

If a cop pulls you over and just gives you a ticket for $150 but doesn’t list the violation, you can’t fix your driving AND you can’t dispute it.

These suspensions are fixing literally NOTHING.

I know this is a borderline necro, but I’ve heard of a lot of this happening recently.

My thoughts: people like OP been caught up in a ‘backlog’ that has suddenly been actioned by the new CS crew using the notes from the old CS crew. The old CS crew probably knew they were losing their jobs, so they stopped caring about due process.

So, instead of getting a ramping set of punishments over a prolonged period of time, you’ve been actioned multiple times in quick succession. I really hope they change up the process soon.

It’s hard to tell because if you’re getting temp bans for just voice like OP, it’s obviously because of something you said. You know everything you say, and type. If you say -anything- that can be seen as offensive to someone, even if you don’t think it is, you can get silenced. Everyone views this differently, from the “Get thicker skin” to the “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all” crowd.

I feel if the OP felt he couldn’t play the game because he couldn’t type or talk in voice, he probably was not the nicest with the way he addressed things when frustrated with his team. The game is playable without communication, you can use the ping system. I could have all communication withdrawn from my account and I could care less. I’d recommend if constant silences is frequent for anyone, get 4 friends that think like you and pre-made.

I don’t doubt this for a second.

However, I don’t get the impression they were denying the reasons for being actioned. I think their main issue was being actioned several times in quick succession with no gaps in between, and no information on what it was they did wrong.

I feel the notification e-mails should probably contain at least a little more information than they do currently. We’re hearing too many people around here making threads claiming they have no idea what they did wrong.

dont be an a**hole saying weird sh*t, especially typing it in text chat which seems to still be a thing… and you would probably never have that problem.

You need about 5 or 6 accounts to play this game. If you play actively, youll lose 2 or 3 accounts a month. Just some advice

Just happened to me. My 1-month suspension ended. I played for only 5 hours in a single session and got suspended for another month. I barely participated in chat. I’m beginning to wonder if these mysterious suspensions aren’t due to false reports so much as a bug in the system.

If you’re being honest, was there anything negative? It’s very likely if you said anything that could be seen that way you got a report from someone. I think that if an account was previously banned or silenced they probably keep a closer eye on these accounts that get reports and have almost a zero tolerance after your first ban. Which I would agree with, the only issue being if you didn’t say anything toxic and it was a false report, it was unjust. Automation causes a lot of problems, and I can see why people would like at least a reason to ban ie - exact phrase or action that caused the ban.

They fear your greatness.

You honestly can’t do anything. Even if it’s false, the mods cover for eachother and generally uphold any action no matter what. Unless your a famous streamer that can put public pressure on Blizzard nothing is every done. They won’t even look at the case let alone tell you what you did.

Which imo is always the biggest issue of most online punishments. You get a vague message about violation Tos and thats about it. No idea what you did, when you did it etc.

My only advice is get out of voice chat, don’t post anything in text chat as it’ the most focused by the AI bots etc.

Yes it’s taking the “multiplayer” out of a multiplayer game but it’s what you got to do if you don’t want to get banned. Almost anything can offend some one these days and all it takes is a couple of reports to do you in as proven by the numerous times Streamers got reported to a ban for no other reason than people hated them.

I would imagine it’s something along the lines of if you got a previous ban your on a “blacklist” and the threshold for another ban is lowered. Aka lets just say you need 50 reports within a given time frame to get your first ban…

Your on that list and the next time it’s only 25, then 10, then basically any report instantly gets you banned due to your “history of abuse”. Remember of course false reports are a thing Blizzard does nothing about after all.
