šŸ§¼ I get the feeling that "Blizzard's polish" is gone

I really think thereā€™s lots of games out there with gameplay similar to Warcraft or diablo, but their world building has always pulled everything together. At least for me.

Oh yeah, sure. And they kind of invented the entire Diablo genre. At least I think they did. And made huge advancements in RTS.

I kind of think OW is likely their last truly amazing project, but I could be wrong.

I think just like with HalfLife2 redefining the whole genre, HalfLife:Alyx is a sign of things to come.

And thatā€™s going to be a huge shakeup in the games industry.

Heck, there itā€™s certainly going to come a time where eSports is as big, or bigger, than conventional sports.

Probably some time in the next 15 years.

I donā€™t know about Diablo, but the current WoW expansion is widely regarded as one of the worst to date. The next one is looking promising, but thatā€™s probably largely due to necessity since 2 bad xpacs in a row can be WoWā€™s death sentence.

Well, what makes WoW ultimately the best MMO is that itā€™s the most solid MMO overall. A lot of other MMOs excel at certain aspects and are much better than WoW, but then fall incredibly short in others. For example:

  • Black Desert has truly amazing combat, but its progression system is tainted by RNG, excessive grinding and pay2win aspects as of late.
  • Star Wars the Old Republic has top-tier storytelling and world-building (itā€™s Bioware, what do you expect), but its endgame content is severely lacking (this game should really have been single player).
  • Final Fantsay XIV from what Iā€™ve heard (havenā€™t played it myself) has incredible endgame content, but its story is rather generic and leveling is a slog.

WoW is just like the allrounder. Combat is basic tab-targeting, nothing too special, but not bad either. Their lore and story is expansive and neat, but nothing to truly write home about either. Endgame PvE is really solid, but PvP is somewhat lacking. And so on.

Wow was the best one, by far, but it was definitely riddled with the balancing and favoritism their games are known for. In pve it was only sometimes, but in pvp? Dear god. The favoritism was so blatant at times. Also minor things I had mentioned like saying theyā€™d update moonkin skins and they werenā€™t throughout like 3 expansions+

But their strict pve was different. Warcraft (not wow but warcraft) as well as their dungeons were always really good. Iā€™d imagine OW2 is just going to be ow versions of wow dungeons, which Iā€™d probably say would make the game much better

Itā€™s almost like bugs can show up after the update goes to liveā€¦

Yeah true, Iā€™ve said it multiple times here on these forums: Blizzard has always been much better at making PvE than PvP.

Cries in shaman
WoW dungeons came dangerously close to Diablo rifts recently, with billions and billions of boring fat trash mobs betwen bosses. I wonder if OW team is going to follow this wonderful recipe (please, donā€™t).

You canā€™t even heal her in it anymore. Needs an immediate fix.

Thatā€™s not a bug.
They literally said in the patch her Ice block would now behave like an ice wall.
Teammates canā€™t target you through an Ice wall, and now cannot through your ice block.
Infact if youā€™re locked onto Mei as Mercy you get your LOS broken and so you get your 1.3 second Allowance after LOS breaks.

This is a limitation but it has been made into a feature.
That feature may not be there.
Echo happened to be ready, so why not put her out there for a community wanting a new hero.
Whoā€™s to say if the OW2 engine will be able to handle that anyway?
I donā€™t know about you but Iā€™d say a new hero with bugs is better than no new hero.
Same with the skins

Not confirmed as a bug.

Rest you mention are minor graphical glitches so I donā€™t see why they should be considered a big issue in the grand scheme of things.

Sure, it would be better if everything was perfect at all times but if youā€™ve had an eye on the known issues patch threads they make. There are unresolved bugs pretty much every patch released because thatā€™s how making constantly evolving complicated games like Overwatch works. Fix one problem and ten other problems appear.

There are primary bug that need addressing(like crashing etc) which is primarily what QA looks at.

There are bugs that require a great deal of work to fix so the fix is pushed back to get the patch out on time(if itā€™s something not game breaking that is) and then there are minor bugs like graphical glitches which are worked on but sometimes it can take some time to track down the fixes(they do push out bug fix patches from time to time to address minor bugs like this)

I canā€™t find the source but I do remember Jeff or someone commenting on this. It is indeed a engine limitation due to memory constraints and while it wasnā€™t ruled out that this might change in OW2. It wasnā€™t for certain.

Greedvision cutting edges where they can for quick profit.

Their oh so precious ā€œloreā€ is nothing more than pulp fiction - a writeup an intern could come up with, with the base being the old scheme of good vs. bad. It does its job, and thatā€™s it.

All stuff which transported the lore like comics and cinematics have been abandoned more or less now.

If they say that was an intentional fix I WILL scream.

Why pay for internal QA when you can abuse your customer base to do it for free?

Was gonna ask if we had some Blizz office over here or something that I didnā€™t know.

Thatā€™s a feature. She already gets self-healing from that and invulnerability, she doesnā€™t need more heals.

Also, you know, the current world situation probably means less people working on making sure a skin emotes correctly.

Itā€™s a pretty rough time for a lot of Devs right now. Most like Bungie and Blizz are all working on their next big thing, while keeping their current thing supported, while quarentine is in effect. Itā€™s a perfect storm of issues that all just came at a bad time.

I think overall for Overwatch, Blizz has let themselves down but thatā€™s only because of the high quality weā€™ve seen them be capable of. Right now, theyā€™re handling things okay imo.

this is the first time they did thisā€¦biggest reason probably due to covid-19 where the team need to work for updates on their houses

I just think that if this was an intentional change, then it would have at least be mentioned as a developer comment, like with most large changes.

Also, the self healing is 150hp during the full duration. So this not only prevents Mei from getting fully healed with the help of a healer, but it also keeps her longer out of a fight. Not to mention that Mei will no longer be affected by Lucioā€™s ultimate and that Mercy canā€™t fly to her.

That just doesnā€™t seem right if youā€™d ask me.

Well I donā€™t find it odd to expect proper testing before pushing changes to live, even with the current world situation. It means it would only take more time.
