So you found 6 non-game-breaking bugs and Blizzardâs polish is gone? I donât think people realize how good we have it compared to a lot of other competitive games
It left with Mike Morhaime and the rest of them.
Overwatch, HotS, Hearthstone? Full of lootboxes and other cash grabs; esports focus at the expense of the average player.
Warcraft 3: Refunded? Something rushed to release because they needed a title to say they made money for a particular fiscal quarter.
Continuing to support Bli$$ard at this point through buying their products is rewarding a company for stomping on our faces. Itâs insulting the lack of quality and anti-consumer practices.
Where are there pay2win aspects?
As current BDO player, RNG is a thing, yes, but donât tell me WoW doesnât have same kind of random drop mechanic. Enchanting can at times be really BS, but you still can reach IV level of enchantment relatively easy(V is really bad), and you have certain guaranteed ways to enhance. Enough events with giving out various stuff for free, including items, that usually require real money to get.
No subscriptions to be able to play(you can get âpremiumâ, but it doesnât offer gamebreaking advantages), which is main reason I didnât even bother with WoW.
You canât buy fails(number of failed attempts, that increases chance of enchantment) with real money, neither can you buy top tier (V) gear with real money.
Reading is key. So donât take it too serious
Apparently there are if you want to be competitive. Thatâs what Iâve heard at least. They mightâve dialed that back again, I donât know. I never got to end-game myself, got bored because of the abundance of unnecessarily convoluted and unintuitive systems (and my pc couldnât run it very well back then, which also attributed to me quitting. I never got around trying it again ever since I got a new one though).
Anyway, Iâve seen enough YT videos about its endgame. Past a certain point, the majority of the game consist of grinding mobs for hours on end and its profession system (or however itâs called there) incentivizes people to leave the game running basically 24/7. These things might appeal to a niche demographic, but theyâre certainly not aspects that I would see as making a good MMO in this day and age.
And I donât like it either that WoW is sub based, but theyâll keep doing it as soon as they can get away with it.
True enough. But even if Iâm not on 100%, they are working with similar limited capabilities.
I.e. Almost no art support, some programming, but it takes a while, and otherwise just numbers changes with some playtesting. (Maybe borrowing playtesters from other projects).

Grinding becomes excessive, if you really want to get V gear. But itâs not necessary in many cases, unless you intend to farm absolute top spots or engage in PvP.
At first yes, systems game uses can be not very intuitive, it takes some time to get grasp of. With profession system, game rewards you for progressing - more difficult crafts/potions/food you make, more experience you get. Obviously, if you intend to stay with simple crafts, you will get less experience in your profession over time.
Really bad aspect of BDO, however, is horse breeding. Especially if you intend to get one of 3 âmagicalâ horses, that have special abilities(Pegasus has wings and can fly, Unicorn doesnât have slowdown in deserts + can support you and your group, and Doom has powerful combat abilities).
OW is one of the better functioning teams, believe it or not.
Well thatâs a yikes
Being a fan as far back as when there was such a thing as Blizzard North, all Iâll say is âMax Schaefer left for a reason.â
Look, Iâm not going to keep arguing about BDO (because itâs been 3 years since I last played it and I canât remember all that much details of it). I just gave it as an example of how many MMOs do certain things much better than WoW, but others much worse. Thatâs also WoWâs strongest point (and actually that of most Blizzard games). It doesnât really excel in anything, but it also doesnât fail in anything.
Good thing is that MMOs arenât set in stone. BDO progressed over time. No expansion packs, just weekly updates, that fix bugs, change scheme of events, and sometimes add entirely new things.
Good thing is that MMOs arenât set in stone.
True and of course itâs all good that BDO turned out better over the years. But still, what I said in my original post isnât even something that I came up with myself. Multiple MMO Youtubers have already said similar things. Even those that donât like WoW themselves have to admit that itâs just the most well-rounded MMO on the market. After all, how else would you explain it remaining the king of MMOs even after 16 years now?
It was first MMO, so when people say âMMOâ they usually think of WoW. As for it being âking of MMOsâ - itâs debatable, but wonât surprise me, as most new MMOs are little more, than mobile games with excessive spending, or go far into âpay2winâ territory. BDO itself is rather old game at this point.
If they say that was an intentional fix I WILL scream.
Iâm not sure if itâs intentional, since you can still keep your beam on mei during iceblock if you had your beam on mei before they iceblocked and still heal her.
Currently BFA really shows how far Activision will go when they want to milk the playerbase. Legion was still good wow installment but after that, they threw everything good in Legion to the trashbin and made BFA MMO version of skinnerâs box. Everything is RNG but has to be grinded if you want the top gear, but then thereâs RNG on top of RNG and itâs just a mess. Activision is truly trying to milk the wow playerbase with subscription model when they made every progression an rng grindfest.
Letâs not even talk about the actual story setting for BFA, which is complete wack on the level of Warlords of Draenor. They devolved Sylvanas into a cartoon level villain which seemingly continues on Shadowlands.
Wow was the best one, by far, but it was definitely riddled with the balancing and favoritism their games are known for. In pve it was only sometimes, but in pvp? Dear god. The favoritism was so blatant at times. Also minor things I had mentioned like saying theyâd update moonkin skins and they werenât throughout like 3 expansions+
Jesus christ the blatant favouritism for specs in PVE is still absurd. Where do I even begin?
Frost mage for some reason, is not allowed to be a good mid-game and endgame spec simply on the basis that it doesnât scale well. But they canât seemingly fix that issue ever. Same issue since literally vanilla. And because of âmuh pvpâ. Frost is forbidden from being a good pve spec because itâs a âgood pvp specâ. Mindboggling.
Fire mages since vanilla though:
Thereâs been one occasion where mage hasnât been good and that has been Sunwell in TBC. But if you dared to like another spec instead of fire, oh boy.
Feral druid bounces somewhere around difficult to use high value single target spec to boring, easy to use, poor single target spec that they just keep messing around with. Cat is insanely fun, but the devs love to mess with cat dudus.
Letâs not even talk about how they killed Demonology Warlocks because there was one trinket from Lei Shen that made demonology locks darn good and yet still not as broken as affliction warlocks. Oh boy affliction warlocks on MoP! But Demonology had to be destroyed as a viable spec from there on forward. They did my warlock spec dirty on WoD.
Monk class as viable class as a whole. They just tryna punish pandaren for MoP I guess.
Poor, poor Shamans. First they took Shaman viability, then they took shaman identity by removing totems.
It was first MMO, so when people say âMMOâ they usually think of WoW.
Not really⌠more like the first âmodern MMOâ (there were quite some MMOs before WoW, Everquest being the most well-known, but they played quite a bit differently). Anyway, being the first isnât always a guarantee of staying strong. PuBG was also the game that popularized the BR genre, yet itâs Fortnite that eventually took the cake.
As for it being âking of MMOsâ - itâs debatable,
Purely going by estimated player numbers, itâs still the most popular MMO out there.
as most new MMOs are little more, than mobile games with excessive spending, or go far into âpay2winâ territory.
Yeah true. MMOs as genre itself also got much less popular in the last years.
What happened?
China happen. from HK drama and the virus.
I gave up on wow a while ago. They got rid of totemsâŚ? Thatâs⌠bad. Ridiculously bad
Itâs a shame really, how Blizzard has gone from a bunch of nerds to a AAA house akin to Ubisoft and EA. No passion, no dedication and no love. Just business. Everything is PR scripted and no one says anything unless the words have been weighted and calculated by the boffins at the top.
And the quality of their games just shows. WoW is a complete joke, Warcraft 3 reforged was an unmitigated disaster and Overwatch is falling because of obsession on E-Sports. itâs not the Blizzard I grew up with to say it like that.
Off topic, but could not resist. Trust me - senior is rather working with bugs and juniors with new stuff, as it is usually simpler and require less knowledge about the game (; As a senior you telling juniors how to do new stuff, and let them work on this, review afterwards. The bugs are usually more challenging.

Fair point.
