Make every player pay a monthly subscription. This would be in addition to the Battle Pass, of course. That way your account is immediately linked to you bank account and you can only make one account. It would also fix smurfing and the rampant Unranked to GM problem.
i have a shockingly simpler and super duper unique solution instead
yes, hello blizzard? are you listening?
maybe we put more money into anti cheat development and hire some of the people who develop them (cheating software) to combat it
People don’t cheat in games they pay for?
Would you pay money to cheat in a video game?
The way I audibly went “ew” at monthly subscription.
I wouldn’t cheat in a video game.
My question was “people don’t cheat in games they pay for?”
Do they?
I don’t think they would be as likely to risk it if they couldn’t just get a new account and they had to pay a monthly subscription. That’s why I made the thread.
I disagree.
Cheaters will absolutely cheat in any arena they want to cheat in.
It’s why even at the highest most professional ranks of any competitive activity you’ll see cheating occur.
Any activity that allows for competition of any kind is guaranteed to have cheating of a certain degree.
Price or cost of entry isn’t a dissuasion.
How do you know that? You said that you yourself are not a cheater. Where do you see all this cheating happening in professional competitive games?
Because there’s news about it and I can read lol
The insinuation that only cheaters know when and where cheating can occur is asinine, and the further insinuation that because I know must make me a cheater is just crappy of you.
Do you want links or can names and situations suffice?
Where? I haven’t read it apparently.
I didn’t say that. You were the one who brought that fact into the discussion. But for someone who isn’t a cheater, you seem awfully certain of why people cheat.
ask that question to the cheaters who pay $100 a month to subscribe to cheat software
Is that in a game with a subscription? I don’t know anyone who pays $100 a month to cheat.
Mark McGwire? Lance Armstrong? Deflate Gate? Sean Merriman? A Rod? Sammy Sosa? Tonya Harding? Addlestein and Lew? For just a few very high profile examples of cheating in professional level sports?
How about some gaming examples?
https://www.watchmojo.com/amp/articles/top-10-times-pro-gamers-got-caught-cheating
There were even a few CS tournaments that cheaters were removed from mid game. One I was actually watching at the time (maybe 2016? I can’t remember precisely).
Point is that cheaters exist in any form of competitive environment from family UNO around the table to the Olympics. Price, moderation, and venue can’t stop a determined cheater from cheating.
I’m pretty sure that athletes get paid lots of money to play professional sports in real life, so I’m not sure how that’s relevant to this discussion. It’s not even the same kind of “cheating” in that context. It’s not like they bought an alt account for bicycle racing. If they get banned, they can’t come back.
The same logic applies to Counter-Strike, it’s literally a free to play game. How is that an example of people cheating in a game where they pay a monthly subscription? You can just make another account and instantly come back.
Nope you just shadow ban cheaters, and have cheater only lobbies… once acct is caught cheating they can only play with other cheating accts, they may or may notice they were shadow banned… It would delay the prospects of them creating a new acct…
Has this ever worked in a game before? I think losing an account you have put money into would be a bigger punishment.
people who put money into acct prolly won’t cheat, people with 0 dollars in there acct have nothing holding them back cause it is a free game, and i think it has worked in titanfall dont recall if it was in 1 or 2 or both
It relevant because at the highest, most restrictive positions in competitive arenas, cheating still occurs.
Money, public infamy, their entire job is on the line if caught cheating, yet they still do so anyway even there.
Cheating is cheating.
It doesn’t matter what it is, it’s meant to gain an unfair upper hand.
Don’t brush it off like it’s not relevant.
Not prior to 12/2018 it wasn’t lol.
It’s not. It’s an example of cheats being used in the most restrictive of circumstances, in a paid game.
You can just buy a new copy and come back.
You do understand that people in professional sports get paid right? That’s the opposite of an example of what I am asking. You are actually proving my point, which is that people are more likely to cheat if they are incentivized to do so. Show me people who are cheating in a game where they lose money every month.
