How Do You Reduce Queue Times

Well that is the fault of the players as well. No one wants to be a heal bot (but me probably) or a not dps tank.

Almost everyone wants to have high damage and get dem pick and elims.

It reduces queue times as a game only needs 2 Tank roles instead of 4 Tank roles. Having 2 less players per game makes it easier to match up teams.

I still think it should be 2 Tanks, 1 DPS and 2 Healers. :rage:

THIS ^^^

We need this.

keeping it to 5 and increasing the tank requirement would only make the situation much much worse…

Yup. Because they’d need to hard nerf Tanks to do that, while they are already at crisis low levels of Tank players.

No. It’s about player ratios.

In 6v6, what you want is 1/3 tanks, 1/3 DPS, 1/3 supports. 4 of each per match.

In 5v5, you want 1/5 tanks, 2/5 DPS, 2/5 supports. Still 4 supports and DPS but only 2 tanks.

So, let’s say you had 25 people maybe 4 were tanks, 8 were supports, and 13 were DPS. In 6v6 you can only make one match and then you have to wait for more tanks. In 5v5 you can make 2 matches with the same players. So, 50% more games can be made meaning faster queues.

The thing is that the tank role was a bottleneck. Tank queues for me in OW1 were instant. Like 1 second instant. Support and DPS were several minutes. Now tank is about the same as support for me. DPS is still the longest queue, but it’s at least half what it used to be.

Yes, but wouldn’t that just cause a leaver problem even worse than what we have now? Oops, someone else selected my role first. Now I leave to lobby shop until I click faster than the other guy.

Theoretically, if they had 5v5 Role Limits of 1x Tank, 2x Support, 5x DPS.

They could also add an optional “dibs queue” for Tank and Support, that never backfills, and it immediately picks Tank or Support.

We’ll just overlay a “No Limits” Arcade mode in it. Problem solved. :slightly_smiling_face:

There used to be a real shortage of tanks at the end of ow1.

I think support queues were around 8 minutes and dps could at times go beyond 15 minutes while tank queues were around a minute long.

That’s probably one of the reasons why they removed one tank.

everything comes with pros and cons…there are no magic solutions

if we are strictly talking about how to ensure goats was not played…there were various different methods they couldve gone with that didnt involve a queue…all with their own downsides

To me fixing tanks would be removing sombra, removing anti, reducing discord orb, and then deal with the stupidly high burst of some heroes like cass, hanzo, widow and sojourn.

Still being at a place where you can peek from a corner to throw a hook or drop your shield to firestrike and die from full health before either of those animations completes just shows that buffing tanks to deal with high-burst is never going to be the answer.

Fixing Ana would bring back a load of players to the tank role I’m sure. She has driven more tank players away than any other hero.

Notice how Hanzo, Junkrat, and Echo are getting changes next patch?

All of which are “Tank busters” with large chunks of damage.

Complete mystery why echo would get any buff. She is in line for some nerfs. Top-4 hero and apart from tracer, 3 of those are very similar.

But this is what we wanted to get away from. So if they did role limits it should still be strict 1/2/2 or 2/2/2. I’m not down for allowing more than 2 of any role for any reason. Stacking was the problem.

Yes, but it said that they are all getting buffs which is just bad IMO.

Good points as always. To add a bonus from this is some of the power of the off tank was shifted into the support role and thus evened out the dps/support ratio.

How would it make it worse if you remove a DPS player and add a tank?

I mean it’s not all bad  . I’ll definitely take advantage of busted echo until the inevitable nerfs lol…

IMO Echo is way less obnoxious than Hanzo and Junkrat. I’m not excited for them to be better.
