hypothetical 50 people based on what current queue times would indicate: 10 of them are 15 are support and 35 of them play dps…and you require 122
how many games can you make before the rest have to wait? 10…cause you only have 10 tanks
now instead require that a group have 2 tanks…
well now you can only make 5 groups…and you just doubled the wait times of everybody else (worse for the dps than the support in that case cause theres more of them)
you cannot simply increase the number of tanks required without changing how many people there are willing to play the role
Crazy idea. But let people queue up before they choose Thier role, and if after so many games the player doesn’t get Thier preferred role they get a some kind of point or currency that gives them priority? A priority pass maybe?
This logic is flawed because the math requires that everyone picks one role and plays only that. When in reality most players play at least 2 roles, even if lopsided.
For example, I was probably 50% support, 40% tank, 10% dps in OW1.
In OW2, I’m now maybe 95% support and 5% dps.
Everyone keeps talking about “tank players” when in fact they need to think about “players willing to queue tank”.
You accept reality, nerf the support role entirely, and just go back to 6v6 OQ since the game had no queue time issues prior to goats/Brig and the forced garbage of RQ being put onto the entire player base against their will when the majority literally doesn’t care one way or another and wasn’t playing any meta and never really has.
Yes exactly… now let’s think back to S1 for a moment.
Every match was just dive supports nonstop, and once they were dead, it was a 3v3 slugfest of the remaining players. I remember everyone saying “Mercy is dead” and how miserable playing support was because all you ever did was run and hide.
As everyone got used to things and supports got more offensively stronger, now tanks are the burst victims. Drop that one player and you win the team fight.
I am definitely not saying bring back S1 tactics of making supports the first victims. But it clearly showed that players WANT to play tank heroes because the are big fat dps and lots of fun. But being the ONLY tank is absolute misery because you are a single source of failure and the ONLY objective in every engagement.
Nothing else matters. Kill tank. Win team fight. Gain progress. Repeat till victory.
Make a better game than OW1 was then the Que times will drastically go down. But thats not gonna happen anytime soon. Every season they make 2 or more big mistakes they manage to squeeze out, declining player count is the result of bad patches.
