I would still want a DPS role because 1) DPS is fun 2) Theres a lot of DPS characters and 3) The Role is quite popular.

No. Removing the DPS role would genuinely kill this game lmfao
2 tanks, 2 dps, 1 support, increase self healing out of combat for everyone and shift more tanks to ‘heavy DPS’ like JQ

The main issue with Tanks right now is the nature of their positioning as the front line during battle
From there, well, is just Discord, Hack, focus, and back to spawn
We could say that this problem could be fix by creating a Diminishing Return rule that prevents the stacking of negative effects on Tanks, but reality is that people is very bad at coordinating the rotation of this abilities when not playing in a stacked group.
So changing the format could easily solve the problem, but we would be creating a new one
For saying 2+3, the range from Pure-to-Hybrid DPS and Support, is too wide
2-2-1 Could be a good starting point on Arcade or the Experimental card, but since we would be left with only one Support now, all heroes on the role would require a massive rework towards the Self Healing spectrum; which very few have already
And stablish basic rules around it, such as:
And with things like that you can create different gameplay dynamics by forcing the peeling from another teammate, for example; and something that again, we already have

I really don’t know what is the demographics for each role at the moment, but it is true that Tanks are in the worst shape we’ve seen so far.
But Overwatch is an FPS game, and Tanks are pretty aggressive; like they are not just standing there soaking damage
The question is how you rebalance the game when shifting the format yet again

I honestly believe that this is the best and easiest approach to implement quickly and see how it works
