LOTS!!
In the time you stayed in that game you could have been playing the next one already. Don’t waste time. If you can leave with out a penalty, leave. Start next one and forget about the last one.
I never understand why some players stay in the game, if there is a chance you can still win, go for it. If not; don’t waste your own or others time by staying in the game. When all members of a team leave. The game ends right away.
I rather start the next one, instead of spawn camping some dumb idiots.
This is a good example of win condition. What would you say the enemy team could have done to win against your team? Also, What if the win condition isn’t as black and white? Like, they don’t have one player/hero that’s hard carrying them?
In a general sense, if someone is in your match they are likely to have roughly the same skill as you, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they are exactly equal. There are many factors that are calculated into someone’s SR which can even change from game to game. Of course things like you mentioned, how much game sense someone has, how much mechanical skill they have, what kind of hero choice they have, depth of ability on different heroes, communication skills & leadership, how toxic someone is, how much someone has played, if they play with friends that boost them up or drag them down. Even on an individual game basis, someone can be having a bad game, or they are being relentlessly targeted by the enemy, or there is just no synergy between team members.
In any case, it’s basically impossible to figure all these things out within a single match anyway. I’ve played in scrims with the exact same teams against each other, where one game one team stomps and looks like clearly superior. Then the next game with the exact same players and teams, the other team gets stomped. Even a small thing like winning the first fight will give ult advantage and then that team can continue to push that advantage and win the game from the momentum that the enemy can’t overcome.
Even with that all said, I played in a game 1000 SR lower than my own with some friends last week. A friend of my friend accused me of throwing as we lost. I had 18k dmg in 11 minutes on DPS. It is most commonly the case that people just have no idea what they are talking about, and are quick to accuse people of throwing. The reality is, there are not throwers in every match of yours. You will probably find only a handful of throwers in an entire year of playing.
I know for a fact that pbsr used to be broken. No idea if it is now or not.
Couldn’t climb with 60% win rate on Mercy. Was on +20/-30. Maybe get +25 for a godly performance.
Got fed up of going nowhere and switched to Torb and Orisa. First game with Orisa got 4 elims and zero medals and got 28 SR. Don’t know about you, but I’d think that the Mercy with 15k heals and 12 rezzes did more to help a win than an Orisa that only got 4 elims all game that simply camped the payload whilst other 5 on team spawn camped the enemy…
I have zero trust in PBSR anymore and am happy to find ways to abuse it.
Only stat that should matter is win %. No way in hell someone should be on 70% win rate* and not climb, or on sub 50% win rate and get to GM.
(They fixed for diamond plus as realised how damn stupid pbsr is. Keeping it at plat and lower is a tacit admission by the devs that they think low rank matchmaking broken and that skilled players need help climbing. Shame they don’t make clear what being “skilled” is for each hero).
*Rag Tagg on Orisa in masters before the pbsr change.
Blizzard would never reveal how to minimize Sr loss because according to Jeff it would make the game exploitable. There was a post on forums a long time ago about a guy figuring out how MMR and Sr worked together and I believe he got banned. Spoiler: it was a hoax. Either way the black box that is comp was never meant to be understandable.
Interview Sty has had with Jeff show Jeff saying they want ranked and how it works to be more transparent. Biggest lie ever told. How long has the community asked for balance changes to anything while not receiving feedback from community managers or being told they have been super busy. Devs are even scared of releasing a plab for events and updates because they “fear player backlash”. Riiiiight. Players demonstrate backlash because they feel ignored in the first place. After all this time the it reason the new changes are coming in is because of owl and the need to see goats dead. Not because soldier has been out of the meta forever or sombra has always needed will changes or sym has always needed more range on her beam like sym mains asked.
Mcree’s high noon isn’t getting buffed because it has always been called trash by every gm player. All these changes are only happening because viewers want to see more diversity and DPS in owl. Then devs preach about player backlash and us not knowing what we want. BS. They know what we want. They are just afraid of change.
Overwatch isn’t the first game to have several heroes and many abilities to balance. League has 140+ but they always are ready to communicate with their players. It has lasted a decade because of that not in spite of it.
The thing I will agree with you on is that the game not providing useful stats is a travesty. I used one of those third party programs for a while before they got banned. (not visor, the other one that only gave you results after a match)
I think it was helpful to see areas I could have improved on, as it was able to digest information in a good way. The game not doing that is the one thing that frustrates me to no end with the SR system, as it often feels totally arbitrary what your gains and losses are.
Aside from that, there are other important metrics to look at in a game. Raw healing doesn’t actually mean anything as long as your avg/10mins is good. What does matter is mistakes, and whether you could have been better in areas you don’t think matter. Assists and deaths matter more for Mercy than raw healing and rezzes.
I don’t. I occasionally go on some pretty bad losing streaks, either in a single session or over multiple days. I just enjoy the easy games on the way back up to where I belong. If I fall enough I can even play heroes I’m not good enough with at my usual SR.
EDIT: Wow, reading that back it looks really bad. Just to be clear, I don’t throw or try to derank. I just don’t worry too much if I do. I mean, I can’t play at my peak all the time. Just ride the roller-coaster and enjoy it.
