How do I play D.Va well?

I feel like I’m not good with her but I want to get better.

Could someone give me some tips on playing her?

Right now my accuracy isn’t so good and I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do in a push when the enemy team is clumped up besides use DM to protect my team. How do I safely do damage in that scenario?

How experienced are you at the game? The question is pretty generic and I don’t want to assume you know nothing…

I played OW off and on when it was new but I was never very good. FPS aren’t games I usually play. I didn’t really do competitive aside from a few initial games.

Hmmm… may I suggest playing winston? You can learn about positioning and creating space with him and the concepts are universal to the game.

I recommend watching Emongg either his YouTube or Twitch. Usually plays a ton of DVA even in OW2

You switch to orisa and do everything better and with way more mitigation.

And no im not joking or trolling. His weapon shield might as well be a better matrix lol

Henlo, long time Dva zealot here.

I always have said that Dva in particular needs very fast aim due to how you need to aim at point blank in lots of scenarios to get full value out of her.

Cooldown management is mainly important with micro missiles in that you don’t want to waste them but use them at as close a range as possible so that they land.

My sensitivity btw is 12 in game and 4000 dpi. That’s very high but it makes for aiming at point blank consistently possible.

Always use boosters in a way that doesn’t make you feed at the end. 4 seconds is a long time to be in the middle of the enemy team with only dm for protection. You’re best to take as many corners as you can or high ground once your boosters end.

DM on ally’s is fine but don’t use so much that you never have enough for yourself. You’re always more useful playing selfishly alive than demeched / dead.

You can get massive value off of hard aggro backline kills but it’s a fine line between feeding and getting good value. Sometimes it is best to use yourself as a sacrifice if it means your team can live to take the fight given you can return to them faster than most of them can.

Don’t prioritize deleting ults if it puts you in a position that likely means getting demeched. Dva is best when an opportunity arises, not as an outright initiator. Taking advantage of enemy positioning mistakes is key.

That’s all I can think for now. I’d say mainly practice making sure your tracking is as good as you can get it. A Dva that misses shots is no good. It’s why rein and Winston are so consistent but good Dva players are rare to come across.

While emongg is no doubt a great tank player, I can’t stand how defensively he plays Dva. I know Dva is considered the defensive dive tank but I think people trying to learn Dva can learn far more from players like guru who know how to balance risk and reward compared to always on the back peddle playstyle.

Well, I can try giving you some tips from my OW1 knowledge, I haven’t played OW2 much yet.

D.va has always been a very strong but difficult hero, because she is really versatile. In OW1, you usually did not want to stand in front of your team and randomly DM damage coming in as if you were some (bad) Reinhardt.
You should use high ground and cover to avoid taking damage yourself and use DM to save allies or protect them during specific situations (a DPS dueling an enemy DPS, a support being dived by a tracer/genji/reaper…).
Usually you do damage when you either: 1. Help a teammate (the situations I just mentioned); 2. Punish an enemy out of position (like a Widow flanking on her own, or an Ana who ventured away from her team) or 3. Dive the enemy backline with the rest of your team.

So the difficult part is to know what the priority is at each moment. Should you stay close to your supports to protect them from tracer? Should you go for their widow off to the side? Should you pressure their tank? The better you get at understanding the game in general the easier you’ll find it to answer these questions and the more value you’ll get out of d.va

Thought I would bump this thread and state my progress.

I just haven’t really found a way to get better at tracking people in melee range which is super important as D.Va. I have tried to be disrupting with boop by flying into the enemy team and stuff but I find usually my team doesn’t take advantage of that and I just get focused by the other team.

I think my main problems as D.Va are finding windows of opportunity to be disruptive and tracking people at close range. I just don’t feel like I’m doing well and I’m at a loss on how to improve.

Dont play DVA vs a zarya, symmetra.

You do have to dash and pick up low hp squishies.

Make use of covering line of sight often in several maps and locations for not feeding enemy damage + refresh on heals on you (this also applies to junkerqueen and few other tanks).

You can be more offensive if your team is good. If you are still loosing badly in a team as defensive, switch to a different hero.

Yeah I found that out and I actually took advantage of it against an enemy D.Va by switching to Zarya. I actually won after doing that. I find I’m doing way better as Zarya than D.Va right now actually.

I’m trying to do this but I still need to get better at it. I’m trying to wait for my team to respawn and catch up after a wipe before going in.
Good advice.

Push the enemy in the big hole in the center of the map.

Get into the practice range and just get a better feel for how D.Va does her thing. She can be game changing if played correctly.

I have no trouble in practice range. The targets aren’t jumping around me like genji does there.

A simple strategy with her is to play conservative at first - stay by your healer and use your shield while you take stock of the enemy team. Look for a squishy DPS or healer that splits off on their own just enough that you can use your boost to crash into them while spamming your machine guns and rockets. Most will die. You can also just wait for the flankers to come after your back line and do the same to them.

You must be joking though since Dva is a stronger pick than Orisa. Though Orisa is defnitely easier to pick up for sure.

Don’t underestimate the value of smashing your mech into people with boost add a meele before connecting for more DMG.

You only need a sens of like 1.90sens 1600 to aim at close range anything lower I think is impossible I play at

2.10sens at 1600

I think a good orisa will destroy a dva tbh.

Certainly so but I do nothing but wrist aim. I just prefer comically high sens.
