I’ve just started playing competitive and after my placement matches for tank received an SR of 1654. Ive played 20 matches now and lost almost all of them due to poor communication and teamwork. Almost every game I get at least one gold or silver but my SR has dropped to 800! Please help, I’m losing all motivation to play the game anymore.

You will have to go in with a group of people. Other wise it is a crap shoot, even if you win a game or 2 with other people they just disband and disappear.

I dont have any other friends that play overwatch 
it seems the only way to rank up is if i can carry an entire team of crap players to a win.

- Get out of voice!!!
- Turn off music
- Focus on not dying and chase kills only while being save to not die!
Communication is something you need later. First learn to hear your enemy, listen to voice lines and react to what’s needed without the need a babysitter telling you what to do.
If you cannot hear that behind you people are fighting and you should help you should not go to voice! Learn that first!

Communication is important. But doing it wrong it does more harm. And before you can do communications right you must first learn to observe what happens around you without it.
Communication is intended to coordinate and to get your attention to things you can easily miss. Good communications is rare seen and below gold or even platin a waste of time.

Another tip: if people are toxic and this annoys or even triggers you: leave the text chat. Have it enabled when chosing heroes maybe to discuss synergies but later on, or after the first flames, leave it
If you eliminate what triggers you you play better.
Edit: for everything in your life to do it good you need to learn to focus on it. Remove what distracts you!

Yes. When you can handle it well on your own, when you hear what happens while fighting at the same time you are getting ready for comms.
Then you need the luck to find team mates that are at the same level

Which role?
For DPS, Reaper can work great in bronze. So does Pharah (if the enemy doesn’t have a smurf widow), Ashe if you have somewhat okay aim.
Support, go for Moira. Heal as much as you possibly can but you need to deal damage in bronze to carry.
Tank… eh, idk. A good Wrecking Ball can be a nightmare but good means diamond+ level here. Sigma is pretty good too.
I play tank. Mosty Dva, Road hog or Orisa

Those aren’t carry heroes and DVa and Hog is at a pretty bad spot overall.
You definitely should learn Wrecking Ball and pick up Sigma IMO.

If you have a somewhat good tracking aim you could also play Zarya. Charged Zarya is like tanky nightmare DPS.
Also Zarya trains your ability to see what’s happening around you with your team mates as you can help them in the right moment with a bubble.
For examply save a mate that has been charged by a Rein, or hooked by a Roadhog.

The same thing happened to me. If you play late at night, you’re going to be stuck in smurf purgatory. I was in silver and played late at night a few nights in a row. I fell deep into bronze. I think I hit as low as 700 over the next few season. Started queuing mystery heroes in arcade late at night instead of competitive(competitive the other times of day) and I’m back into silver as a healer, and close to it on tank.
There was an article on which characters have the highest winning percentage so far this season in competitive play. Most levels it’s Sigma, Orisa and Zarya. Would suggest those three.
If you want to list your battletag I would be happy to play some QP with you and give you some pointers.
