so pretty much explained in the title, saved highlights play as a small clip in the corner of a larger black screen.
i’ve tried it with different highlights with different settings, even verified the game’s installation but to no avail.
it’s not an issue with my video player because even my editing program has the same thing happening. i’d post a picture but i don’t know how and i’m not sure if links are allowed or not.
EDIT - Solved, see post below
Bumping, just experienced this tonight. No changes in my configuration. Tried to save a POTG highlight and the output mp4 shows a black screen with the actual clip shrunk to about ~15% of the screen in the top-left.
Cause Unknown
Steps to Replicate
Navigate to Career Profile → HighlightsSelect desired clip and saveSelect any options (webm, mp4, hardware, res, any combination yields the same result)Output file is unusually small and black space fills most of the screen
Context
This only started happening today 10/24/2022 for me, but previous OW2 clips from the past few weeks were generated as expected without issue. The clip in question was on King’s Row, Quick Play, Attack side, playing as ReinhardtThe clip was very epic, perhaps too impressive to share
WORKAROUND SOLUTION/ROOT CAUSE
I figured out a workaround and potential cause for this issue. My monitor has HDR enabled and on a hunch I disabled it. After disabling HDR, I was able to export the clip to a video without issue. In a pinch, you can alt-tab and disable HDR on the desktop, tab back into OW, export you clip, then enable HDR again after.
Steps
- Alt-tab out of or close Overwatch
- On the desktop, right-click, select Display settings
- Select the primary gaming monitor by clicking it in the window that pops up
- Scroll down to the ‘Use HDR’ option and temporarily disable it
- Tab back into or open Overwatch
- Export your desired clip
- Clip exports successfully and without issue
Just thought i’d pitch in and necro this and try to help anyone having the same issue with the small screen in the upper left corner when saving a highlight or POTG.
Go to graphical settings and set the AMD FSR to 1.0 instead of 2.2. That’s the thing that messes up the saved video.
FSR setting (“default”, 1.0, or 2.2) makes no difference for me. Turning off HDR temporarily did resolve the issue (I just turned it off in game settings). Oddly, I’ve had HDR on since OW1 days, and this has only broken between 2023-06-05 (last saved highlight I have that doesn’t have the issue) and 2023-06-24 (first saved highlight presenting the issue).
Just wanted to chime in that this still happens. Exact same issue that I encountered. With HDR on, highlights are saved to the top left corner. With HDR off, everything works perfectly.
Bumping it. Still the same issue. Will try the proposed HDR workaround. However, I feel like it’s a bug that Blizzard needs to fix rather than relying on the players to find workarounds.
Welcome to OW2 experience. Because battle pass made the game better.
