8 months into 2018 and we get a short that has zero new character development nor any new insight to the Overwatch lore because there’s no context to how D.Va fits into Overwatch. Just some random flying robots that conveniently show up for the sake of some predictable action sequence.
Sorry
Stop acting as though your opinion is fact: It’s not
‘no character development’ ???
It felt lazy (charsss)
I honestly wish they would increase the length of these shorts if they are all going to end in generic action sequences.
It kind of did suck in the respect that it shows nothing new at all. It’s always cool to get one of these, the animation is spectacular, but they used in game lines a lot and it’s just D.Va doing what everyone knew she did.
Did the thought ever cross your mind that there are more people than the Overwatch organization?
D.Va is not affiliated with Overwatch. It disbanded years ago, likely before she was born.
What this cinematic showed was how D.Va is a hero, a young woman who has suffered through war and loss for the good of her people, and puts her duty above everything else, including taking care of herself.
The world has more heroes than Overwatch.
It was generic and contrived.
What do you expect from a 7-minute long video, the Titannic? This, along with all the other shorts are supposed to be action packed glimpses into the lives of the one or two heroes featured within. And even so, I thought Blizzard did a great job at conveying the more adult and focused side of D’va, qualities that are really not obvious from experiencing only the game itself.
Honestly if you have such a good idea of making a cinematic and developing a character, feel free to sign up to the Overwatch Dev Team and show us what you can do.
I liked the short, it wasn’t the best, but it also was not nearly as bad as some of you say. I found it rather cute and liked it a lot.
Instead of complaining - enjoy the ride. Even if something isn’t as good as you hoped you can still enjoy it.
I knew it was going to be a waste giving D.va her own short. Should have just given her a comic.
That wasn’t the point you originally made. You were complaining about how the short didn’t show her place in Overwatch, but it did. It showed her as the hero of Korea, the person willing to risk her life for the people she cares about.
Was it contrived? A bit, yeah. The whole “hero is the only person who can save the day” has been done before. The surprising part is that D.Va is that kind of a character. Until this point, the only thing we had on D.Va was the spunky gamer full of bravado. For all we knew, she was in it for the glory and fame.
Now we know that she doesn’t care about any of that, and she does what she does for the sake of everyone around her.
Too bad it was predictable and too short to hold any emotional impact
Agreed. The Bastion and Rein shorts had much more substance and impact.
Hey Maralzo this post is rude and disrespectful and you should be ashamed.
I mean, he has every right to post?
It was abolished 5 years before the game takes place. Hana would have been roughly 14 when Overwatch was ended by the UN.
speak for yourself, i enjoyed it
you should feel ashamed to assume that everyone have the same opinions as you
Apparently you’re in the minority of those who liked it.
D.va is a part of a team that defends Busan from invading Omnics. Pretty sure that’s context on how she fits into the Overwatch universe right there.
Unless you mean Overwatch the organization specifically, I’m pretty sure they have already proven that not all of the heroes are either Overwatch or Talon and that’s the end of it.
