Hero Concept: Scottish "Highlander"

I’ve been playing For Honor these days and I thought of a really fun potential melee hero design based on the following gameplay pillars:

  1. Doesn’t need CCs or walls to be effective(like Doomfist).
  2. Doesn’t need to use his abilities to get into the thick of battle only to be left without any tools after a kill(like Doomfist).
  3. Doesn’t rely on a clumsy “ranged attack” to deal damage when in cooldowns(again…like Doomfist).
  4. Requires decent aim to get the max potential out of him.
  5. Has increased movement speed(like Genji and Tracer) and increased HP(300 with no Armor) to help him engage better.

Abilities:

Primary attack(Left click):
Horizontal slash with the Claymore that deals damage to all targets in range with a narrow horizontal hitbox to simulate actual sword. If the attack hits the head, it deals double damage.

Secondary attack(Right click):
A vertical downward slash with the full weight of the Claymore. Has a decent windup(1.5-2sec) and decent recovery(1.5-2sec). Similar to his primary attack it has a narrow vertical hitbox but can hit only 1 target and deals heavy damage if it hits the head of the enemy(100-150?).

Sláinte! (E)
The highlander takes a sip from his flask and gains Damage Resistance for the next 4(5?) seconds. Has a startup animation(2sec) and long cooldown(10-12sec) and is best used as a pre engagement buff, because he can’t attack while drinking and can be interrupted by damage.

Skull Splitter! (Shift)
The Highlander hits with the pommel of the Claymore dealing small amount of damage(35-40) with double damage to the head. Melee range, low cooldown(4-5sec). Can be canceled into light attack(Left click) for a quick combo or can be used as a finisher due to very fast startup animation.

Heroic Leap! (Space)
The Highlander uses his thrusters(it’s the future you know) to dispence death from above. Holding down jump for 2 sec and releasing it makes the Highlander jump into the air at a medium height(between Winston’s Jump and Doomfist Slam). Pressing Right click during the jump makes him deal heavy damage to a single target hit upon landing(100-120), but has a recovery(1.5-2sec.). Otherwise he lands and doesn’t deal damage but has no recovery.

Whirlwind! (Q)
A whirling dance of death. The Highlander spins and deals damage to all targets around him(bypassing shields). The player has control over the movement with a reduced speed during the ult duration (6sec). Can be interrupted with CCs. Less range than Death Blossom but higher damage. Damage is applied only vertically around him, so targets above or below him are safe.

Second wind! (Passive)
It ain’t over till it’s over, kiddo! Killing a target with a “headshot” gives a renewed strength to the Highlander. He gets healed for a decent amount(50-75?). His main sustain that rewards good aim and timing.

PROS:
Good burst damage with huge potential if aimed correctly.
Good mobility with Heroic Leap and increased movement speed.
Good potential self sustain.
Drinks scotch whisky.

CONS:
Short attack range.
Countered by CCs.
Requires “headshots” to get his true value.
Wears a kilt.:smiley:

NOTE: I tried not to use any strict damage and cooldown numbers, because this is a concept above all. Any values given have no ground before actual testing.:wink:

Why did ya put the kilt in the cons? It should be in the pros for sure!

hidden passive ability:
when enemy sees what under the kilt, they get stuned for 2 seconds

Her name should be Vanna Whiteley and she should have a dress based on a kilt. But what’s under it should be the same.

All I wanted since this game has released is just a dude with a sword. No cc, no projectile, no range. Just a dude swinging a sword.

That’s exactly the thought process behind this concept. I think a melee hero does not need CCs and lame ranged attack as an excuse for being close ranged in a shooter game.

Super cool hero. I would LOVE for someone to use a sword. That sounds like a lot of fun.

That sounds like a great idea to help keep a melee hero from getting totally destroyed.

The ult sounds fun too.

No underwear and junkrat land mines would expose inappropriate content. Probably easier to give a Scottish skin to every single Overwatch character.

I like it. It seems like a lot in the kit, but it is good and so far appears somewhat balanced. I don’t have a head for numbers so I can’t say what they should be, but so far they seem fine. The kilt is a bad thing if you are beneath him, just don’t look up.

Primary could maybe do 75 damage if he swings slowly or 50 if he swings fast.
