Hero 30 hints discussion

Going off Brig’s release date last year, we should be getting the next hero hints this week, with their release next week! (estimated release date (Feb 26-March 1st)

Until the hints start dropping, feel free to discuss who might be the next hero here! Then when the hints start, we’ll link them and discuss.

Hamid Faisal’s namedrop in Bastet was not an accident. With his introduction a year ago, and his reintroduction last month, his teaser cycle is identical to that of

  • Ana (Soldier Origins -> Are You With Us/Overwatch is Back)
  • Sombra (Dorado -> ARG/Old Soldiers)
  • Moira (Oasis -> Masquerade)
  • Hammond (HLC -> HLC rework)

All of these heroes were first introduced ~1 year before their debut, and then reintroduced ~2 months before their debut. Also worth noting that we had reintroduction to Doomfist and Brigitte leading up to their playable debuts despite being around for years (Orisa’s entire cycle for DF, and Honour and Glory for Brig), and even a mysterious Numbani Omnic Quadraped was present in Sombra Origins.

Ashe is the exception not the rule.

Edit: As of now with the reveal of Baptiste’s pursuit, it appears they may be going down the road of no know character at all, either shelving Hamid or saving him for hero 31. Let’s wait to find out more first, but Baptiste is currently the most likely candidate for hero 30.

The quadraped in Sombra’s Origins is a bit of a stetch… it has nothing to do with Orisa.

On the other fronts, I agree with you and see the pattern. If Bastet had several hints for future content, then I guess we’re getting Faisal and the OW mission where Reinhardt failed at being stealthy (the one Ana mentions to S76).

Ive got a feeling it will be something left feild, I will be totally unsurprised if its another pretty faced lady.

I always thought that the tanky thing between Volskaya and Numbani is an early concept of Orisa tho.

Ana - Good
Sombra - Evil
Orisa - Good
Doomfist - Evil
Moira - Evil
Brig - Good
Hammond - Neutral-Good
Ashe - Neutral-Evil

With this pattern i could imagine the next hero to be evil or neutral-evil

Ana - Support
Sombra - DPS
Orisa - Tank
Doomfist - DPS
Moira - Support
Brig - Support
Hammond - Tank
Ashe - DPS

3 support - 3 DPS - 2 tank

It could make sense if the next hero is a tank.

So can it happen for the next hero to be a Talon tank? I hope.

For who it would be, i dont know. If someone is a talon tank then it means that the character is better or evenly matched with Doomfist (Lore-wise at least). Max? They respect each other and it would make sense with the Paris map since Max owns a casino in Monaco.

But i can not imagine him as a tank. His size is like an average person and he doesnt look like a mech pilot either.

I do feel like we’re quite overdue for some hints, I’m looking forward to this and I’m really hoping for something left-field!

I do have to wonder if the Paris map has something to do with a new hero?

I’ve heard some pretty convincing arguments for Maximilien, as he is located not too far from France and the map has a lot of Omnic references.

That was NEVER the case in the history of OW so far though - introducing a map that hints towards the next hero. At best, we had maps that come out hinting at a hero that gets released a year+ after the map’s release. So it’s HIIGHLY unlikely that the new map teases the next hero…

Monaco is not really in France, they’re independant.
Also it’s pretty far from Paris.

oh yeah I know that, but I think in the future their travel is much faster than ours, I think relatively speaking they’re close enough to be connected

Yeah, you might be true!
I hope the new hero is not connected to Paris BUT I really hope next Archives event takes place on this map.

I first thought it was just some spider mech and cast it aside. But as time moved on and we got more material such as the cancellation of First Strike (dating it as an older image), OR14s, Honour and Glory straight up replacing the Spidertanks with Idina units… I’m inclined to believe it was early art for the Omnic Quadraped hero they were working on (which was also part of the original cast)

Its more like what we have is 4 heroes and 4 villains. Next can be either if they are trying to balance this out in new releases.

Typically when a new map is related to a hero, its related to a hero 1 year in the future. As I said earlier with Sombra/Moira/Hammond, who were first teased in maps 1 year prior to their debut. Only time we have seen the reverse was with the HLC rework for Hammond, which was only a rework. So I am not inclined to believe we will be getting a Paris hero right away, but maybe in the future.

Personally, I wanna see the Anubis shutdown in Cairo. I wanna learn more about the event that sent Egypt into poverty at the hands of Overwatch, fight Anubis myself (first true Archives boss fight), and play through an expanded version of Temple of Anubis that goes into the pyramid (much like how Retribution went into places that arent on Rialto)

In the future where everyone has flying cars Monaco is pretty close to the amazon rainforest

I’m a huge supporter of this being an Archives mission. It would provide us with a lot of extra information, on omnics, omnic autonomy and omnic programming especially.

The only problem with this is that, due to its place in Overwatch history (10 years ago), we don’t have Overwatch heroes who might participate and weren’t already in Archives events previously. We only have Ana, Soldier, Mei and Winston. I’m not sure if Mei and Winston were available at the time at all though. If at least one of them was, maybe the 4th spot is filled by a new hero, but it’s a big stretch.

I don’t believe they’d repeat heroes for the brawl but if they don’t, there’s simply not enough of them for a mission that far back in the past. Hell, even if Archives is a bit more recent, we’re still down to only those 4 heroes from Overwatch that haven’t been in Archives previously. And Mei is stuck on Antarctica for most of that time.

That even puts a question on how Archives events will be handled in the future when we run out of available ex-Overwatch members as heroes. It’s likely some of the new heroes will be ex-Overwatch members or at least someone working very closely with Overwatch (maybe hero 30 even), but at one point they’ll have to start repeating them for Archives. Whether or not repeat heroes start this year, we might expect hero 30 to be someone to fill a spot in Archives (which means Overwatch member or someone working very close with them).

We are already reaching the point where we need to see repetition. Of the supports in game, we have:

  • Mercy - In Uprising
  • Moira - In Retribution
  • Ana - Did not have her healing rifle until after her “death”
  • Lucio/Brig/Zen - Unrelated to Overwatch, and are not combatants until the immediate present.

Unless hero 30 is a support, we will be seeing repitition. Even outside healers, the only OW agents that actually are agents that remain are… Winston, Soldier 76, and a non-support Ana.

Here’s to hoping we get a Talon Tank as the next Hero.

Unless sombra and her hacking healthpacks would be intended healing.

Pretty much. It brings an interesting question on how they’ll solve this issue and how new Archives events will look like in the future.

I’m pretty sure constant hero repeats for story events won’t be received kindly. It could get boring, considering that means same heroes will be getting more lore details in the most important event in the game. I think it would be good if we could get at least one more Archives without repeats.

When Retribution was just announced, I wondered how they’ll solve the issue of Reaper. It seems not entirely canonical that Reyes had his full 100% ready and functional Reaper abilities 8 years ago. I could be wrong, but I can’t imagine him being fully like that so early, nobody making a comment on it and it just being present as his abilities for so long. Wouldn’t that have made him suspicious waaay before Overwatch fell? Wouldn’t that make him recognisable later when he re-appears as Reaper?

That makes me wonder if they’ll do the same with Ana. Put her as a healer despite her canonically not being a healer during her stay in Overwatch.

Sombra isn’t an Overwatch agent. We’re discussing specifically which heroes are available for Archives (which focuses on past Overwatch missions).

Has he really done anything good? If anything he’s pure neutral.
