If it was blatantly automatic, wouldn’t it address policy violations immediately? Not wait for hours, sometimes days?
Let me cover how these forums work.
We have two basic systems in play on our forums. We have a system in place that is intended to detect spam, such as illicit advertisements, etc… If the system detects what it thinks is spam it will quarantine the post/thread until it can be reviewed by a Moderator.
It tends not to impact the OW forums as much, but it is still an active system on all of our forums though, so can sometimes hit new posting accounts, especially if they are posting quickly and/or editing a lot.
The second system we have in place is a reporting system. This allows other users to report posts they feel may violate the Code of Conduct, or may not necessarily belong in a specific forum (such as topics that are not specifically related to Overwatch gameplay).
Those reports do two things.
1, If there are enough of them it may temporarily hide a post until it can be reviewed by a Moderator.
2. Even if there are not enough reports to hide a post, it may generate a report to be reviewed by a Moderator.
In both cases, any additional action that is taken is done by a Moderator.
If a Moderator finds the post violates our Code of Conduct they may delete the post/thread and/or penalize the posting character. In many cases when we feel a post simply doesn’t belong, or might be problematic, we’ll remove the post. This is generally an effort to get the poster to rethink the content of that post so that if they decide to post again that they do not violate policy when doing so.
Moderation is not 24/7, so there are delays in which we may get to the reports. If you see a post that you feel violates our Forum Code of Conduct, please report it so it can be reviewed.
