Swearing, vulgarity, insults, etc seem to be flying like theres no tomorrow. What happened to any forum moderation? Has Blizz completely thrown in the towel with ANY type of banning in game or forums? Seems like the wild west here. Maybe time to test the waters?

considering that the forum is treated as a complaint office, I imagine that the forum is the last thing on their minds.
rather than the blatantly automatic moderation, I find the technological inconsistency with which it is supported incredibly annoying. for example we had the “buff” of putting blurry spoilers but not the simplest of technologies that have existed in many forums for decades: the automatic closing of topics after 3 months of inactivity to avoid necroposting.
and of course the negligence of updating the player icons.

Its one thing to complain or disagree with folks but when you have people calling others:
a-holes
dumb___
etc It makes me curious if we can now get away with outright insults with no repercussions…

ah ok. well actually the automatic forum robot is not very intelligent: just report the thing and it disappears without any warning.
and sometimes you don’t even need the robot to see that the discussions simply can’t be had, if people limit themselves to saying “you can’t read? I said…”. which is not offensive for the bot… but that doesn’t mean it’s useless and unpleasant to read. at a certain point I agree that human moderation has been missing for too long.

No, they just rely on reports. If nobody reports it then maybe it goes unnoticed. But if several people report it then it gets removed. Sometimes it takes too much time because the mods aren’t 24/7. They sleep and so anytime outside of normal California business hours stuff doesn’t get removed until the following business day a lot of the time.
And honestly the stuff removed isn’t always offensive. I’ve seen stuff removed that I scratch my head over why it was removed. And more blatant stuff sometimes stays.

Nope. Yesterday one of my posts was removed some 3000 years after the fact bc of the standard “muh tolling” excuse. So, at least one mod bot is still patrolling out there.
why pay for 24/7 mods when the users can report each other for free?

There are moderators, but they aren’t very active.
They don’t have enough moderators to properly cover all timezones. It seems the moderators that they do have aren’t properly empowered to actually enforce the ToS. There are several obvious trolls posting every day with no action taken against them. Can only assume the mods have been either told not to take action or they actually agree the behaviour is acceptable.
Poor reflection on Blizzard, really. They should just close the forum entirely if they aren’t going to maintain it.
This forum platform supports this feature - they even use it in the Bug Report forum. It just isn’t enabled in General Discussion.

they have been much more relaxed on policy than what they use to be .
even in blizzard tickets they are lacking.
so gonna guess that they are no longer watching and just relying on auto bans like their game has I’ve been reporting all sorts of issues on the game when it comes to idle afk and cheaters. haven’t seen anything on it. so gonna guess they don’t care much now.
moderate the forum with what employees? they need every last person they have to directly work on the game, because every last person that would do seomthing like forum moderation or support tickets has been fired.
They got bored of deleting all of the Mahvel threads. And ironically there are less of them now that they have just let everything settle. Kind of sad because who is here to actually discuss Overwatch?
Its too bad theres no way to be a Mod and work for some gold coins or Mythic Prisms. Id totally do it
