Group "Only Girls allowed"

Hey fellas,

afraid what this might startle :smiley: but im not sure about how i feel about this as a male and would like your opinion:

Every once in a while in LFG I see group names similar to “only girls” or “no boys allowed” in the title.

I get that playing as a girl might be hard sometimes in videogames, but excluding someone from your group because of your gender kinda makes me feel uncomfortable. Imagine a group called “no girls allowed, only boys with mics”, that sounds wrong too.

And where do we draw the line? Is it okay to call a Group “only christians” or “or only muslims”?

Now i understand that looking for a certain nationality makes sense for communicating in a team game, but where do you draw the line here?

Normally, I’d say this is completely hypocritical because we’d get a lot of grief if it was “no girls allowed”. However, considering the crap women put up with in video games, if they are more comfortable playing together then more power to them.

Its more our fault they feel the necessity than it is theirs for forming their exclusive groups.

All I can say is that I hope they had fun in their gai boy party and that it was an incredible success.

I now have a better understanding why some people put up these restrictions (for example females only). But if the restriction is set to “2-2-2” or “only tanks” or “only girls” doesnt matter to be fair, either it is a group i am looking for, otherwise i will look for another one.

I was also worried about some extremes like “white only” or “christians only” but honestly, as many here said: I wouldn’t want to join their group anyway! Still not sure tho, when exactly a Group Name crosses the line to bigotry/sexism/etc (and should then be reported).

Well if you want to play with a specific group of people, why not? I dont see the problem.

While I don’t agree with the approach, I would guess their perspective would be “we won’t get harassment from guys if we just make a group where they’re not included”.

I’d make a girl’s only group because I like girls and would like to meet more of them.

Usually its one of three things:

a- Bait
b- Girls that are legit uncorfontable with playing with guys
c- Are part of a girls only facebook group/discord

And in that second group you have two groups too

a- New to multiplayer/ platform
b- Want a harass free group(sexual or the good old “go make me a sandwich” or the “its the pms” thing that still exists) and 9 times out of 10, a only girls group is the solution.

Yeah talking about it as if “boys only” and “girls only” are on an equal level is sort of disingenuous.

There are far less girls playing than boys, so if we make a group looking for girls only, it’s because we’re looking for people in a similar position to us to play with. Whereas as saying “boys only” is the same as saying “no minorities”. Odds are any 6 stack you pick up on LFG is going to be mostly males anyway.

Whereas unless you specifically seek out other women, you probably won’t get them.

The group is probably made by some horny guy anyway.
I am pretty sure you can report titles like that regardless.

There should be no need for either.

we should just play the game and leave gender and lifestyle choices out of it.

the only thing that should matter in lfg groups is if your profile is private or not and if you have close enough of an sr to the rest of the group.

nothing else should matter.

If someone wants to play with girls only, fine.
If someone wants to play with guys only, fine again.

I tell ya, my husband never gets upset from hearing “sorry hun, you can’t come, it’s just us girls”.

For all you know, they may want to discuss their periods in peace. You woudn’t want to be part of that conversation, right? XD

Playing devil’s advocate here:
how about a transgender looking for other transgender to play with. Whereas unless he/she specifically seeks out other transgenders, he/she probably won’t get them.
Is the Overwatch LFG System the right place to use then?

Why is it okay to discriminate based on profiles and not on the kind of new people you’d like to meet?

And whether there should be a need for it or not, there is, and it’s largely the fault of dudes.

I mean, we should but there’s some bad eggs out there who ruin the experience for the rest of us.

One of my best friends is a married mother with a two year old and is legally blind (can still see enough to play, cataracts sucks) and I’ve heard her say “hey everyone” only to be harrassed before the game has actually started.

So. We should ignore things like gender and just play the game. Some people make that impossible for others and they feel like to just play the game they need to avoid the problem entirely.

Girls get harassed constantly. It’s not hard to understand why they make Girls only teams.

Sounds like you just have some sort of entitlement that should allow you to insert yourself wherever you please. You don’t and people can group with whomever they want in a group they create

I always find it funny when there is a girl in one of my games they usually do a whole hell of alot better than me XD

Yeah I think that’d be a perfect use for it. I’d be happy to see people meeting each other that way.
