Graphical Glitches (Residual Artifacts) from Projectiles

Since Season 10, perhaps even in Season 9, I’ve noticed occasionally the projectiles’ graphical effects from certain heroes will linger on screen for an abnormally long amount of time. It appears to happen only under certain conditions, and so far I’ve only seen two heroes for certain to display this issue: Lucio and Genji. As far as I can tell, the only way I’ve been able to replicate this is when I load into a match that’s already going halfway, i.e. I either backfill or spectate into it after it’s already gotten well underway. If I am seeing first person from a teammate’s side (might work from opponents side too), but NOT spectating from the actual hero whose projectiles are producing the glitches, every so often I will see the graphical effects of their fired shots linger on screen for upwards of estimated 10 seconds or more after they’ve already been fired. They appear either green or orange depending on possibly skin effect or other conditions that determine the initial color of the projectiles, and will stay on screen for so long there’s no other way to describe them except as residual artifacts. I don’t know if it’s skin related, but I’ve seen this happen for Genjis’ wearing the mythic skin, and for Lucios with what appears to be the default Ow2 skin. For Genjis, it can show up as a star, while Lucios are always the round pulsing orb effect. Since both of these heroes fire multiple projectiles per shot, all the residual effects can show up all at once and bunch up on screen, creating not just a distraction but a terrible eyesore that is difficult to see past.

The people playing the heroes producing these effects don’t see them, and neither does teammates who were in the game from the very beginning. Also I’ve had one friend confirm that he can see it too, on occasion when it happens.

In an attempt to reproduce and capture screenshots, I’ve repeatedly spectated friends games whenever I can. It hasn’t been easy to both reproduce and capture again, but so far I’ve seen it in at least two different matches this season. Here are two screenshots grabbed in-game from a match I’ve just spectated today where I’ve been able to reproduce and capture the screenshots. These are from a Lucio. You can clearly see, the Lucio who fired the shots that still lingered on screen is nowhere near the proper Line of Sight for the shots when the effects were captured. Both screenshots were captured several seconds after the shots were already fired and past the location where the residual artifacts are shown. The first one had more time elapse than the second one.

Update: Season 12, just saw this bug again when spectating another match that was already underway. This time the projectiles that lingered on screen were from a Symmetra, I believe. The residual effect lingered for a shorter time than before, maybe around 2 seconds after the shots had already passed. The effect cleared and stopped showing once a new round in the same game started.
