I’m listed in the top 98% of OW at 3800 and top 500 Zen main overall. It’s crazy to think the player base gets extremely tiny as you go up. There are times in the day I just can’t queue up especially in the morning where the wait times are long and you get matched up with platinums and diamonds.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s even worth it struggling to get to higher elos.
Yea it sucks really bad to the point where I don’t even want to play at times. Constantly being hit with the “warning: long wait to fine fair match” sign if I don’t play in the afternoon or early nights.
Jeff Kaplan broke down the Competitive playerbase rank distribution back in February.
61% of the Comp playerbase is spread between Bronze-Gold. Grandmaster is around 1%. And when you question how many Master and Grandmaster accounts might be duplicate accounts for the same player, that 3% and 1% player pool is probably actually lower.
If you look at just Bronze-Plat, that is where a whopping 86% of the entire Competitive playerbase sits (and only 25% are even in Plat).
The base does, indeed, get very small as you go up.
