Remember that Mercy rework, how long and drawn out and painful that was? (And how itâs still a sore issue that isnât fully resolved).
Do we really need to go through another one of those with GOATs?
Wouldnât it be easier to just duct tape it, by limiting Pro, and Diamond and above games to no more than 2 Healer per team?
Then we could focus on more important things. Like Maps. Events. Crossover skins. Making âmeh tierâ heroes not suck. Guilds. Role Queue. And any other number of cool features?
Do we really need to go down the alternative path, which will be a bunch of extremely controversial and painful balance changes that will probably kill off a good chunk of the playerbase in the process?
All of which would use up massive amounts of dev time they could otherwise be put towards Content?
Iâm more concerned about how GOATs isnât solved for Masters, GM, OWL, Contenders.
Especially since even KolorBastion doesnât think Bastion+Sym+Orisa is reliable enough. And itâs extremely vulnerable to a 2-tank, triplehealer with Sombra.
GOATs is devastating Twitch streamer views, and if it turns OWL into a joke, that could destroy the entire game financially.
problem is the GOAT is preventing dps from doing damage while have super high cumulative hp pool.
i think 1 way of limiting comps like this is limit the total hp a team can have.
which could be limited at 1800 hp max
zarya is 400, rein is 500, dva is 600, those three is already 1500 hp.
which would force them away from picking goat comp.
That would be an admission of guilt that the game is broken, never going to happen
IMO we donât need any new content whatsoever, we need to improve on the existing content and create a framework that allows for smoother transition of content to the player base, less reworks and re-balancing, etc
No, they need to release a paid competitive version, and a free, non-ranked noncompetitive version. IMO The StarCraft II business model is something I think they should be looking at a little closer, figure what worked well there, and apply it to OverWatch.
THe ActiBlizz merge attracted a large amount of non neurotypical individuals which you could loosely describe as High Functioning psychopaths. I think they are in the process dealing with this issue, itâs a very common theme for companies that are swallowed up by larger ones, there is always an element of APD individuals causing great amounts of strife and damage throughout any industry they find themselves in.
Unfortunately, watching the ActiBlizz stocks go from $12 a share to $80 a share speaks VOLUMES regarding the current political climate in whichever building the OverWatch gears are trying to turn in.
I feel like there are perhaps a number of alienated individuals involved with the situation whoâve basically had their abilities to shine and grow openly as creative individuals squashed by corporate mandates and straight up, unfeathered greed.
I think there are many more factors at play here aside from the DEVâs being either uninterested or distracted by external factors. I think these people want nothing more than to grow the game into the best thing it can be, and then go from there.
Blizzard has, and always will make good video games first, and what comes after is just a bonus to the fanbase.
Do you really think it takes 20 people 40 hours a week to work on balancing one hero? No. They discuss it a little, make a change, then leave it for a month. Balancing doesnât interfere with content. Short staff does.
Goats isnât an issue, itâs counterbalanced and people are learning, the issue with mercy was that everyone could play her at any rank, goats really only works at diamond+ and even there people are figu it out.
(also havenât you already posted about this a few minutes ago?)
So the obvious problem with this is that GOATs is not necessarily a problem⌠IF the dev team could manage to have several viable team comps going at the same time and GOATs was one of them.
Thatâs the ideal. You can go GOATs, Bunker, Dive, whatever and then switch it up either completely or partially (all the variations of GOATs) depending on what your opponents are doing.
A hard hero limit like that cuts that ideal of the game off at the knees.
