You keep saying it’s unhealthy… but the game has been making money for 3 years. That’s pretty dang long considering we’re playing the same game modes we’ve had since nearly launch.
People still buy it. People still buy MULTIPLE accounts for it.
There is most definitely an audience for this much team reliance.
tbh, i’d enjoy playing tank a bit more if tanks felt like frontlines(tanks) from paladins.
in paladins, playing as a frontline is fun. empowered, even.
like, frontlines can dish out good damage/cc and are very capable of holding their own.
they don’t feel like beach-balls or punching bags
while at the same time still killable. they don’t rely too much on their team to be effective, and the same can be said about the rest of the team.
then again maybe i shouldn’t compare the games like this…
not very good at explaining why i enjoy frontlines so much, so i’ll just say that i love them so much because they feel like actual dictators of a fight compared to tanks in overwatch
and that would alienate the players who enjoy the team focus. There are plenty of team-taking, look-at-me-I’m-acing, get-rekt-and-watch-me-carry, solo focused shooters out there. Why turn this into another one?
Keeping the game the way it is now alienates people that enjoy solo focus.
I tried playing other FPS games. They kind of suck. Like Pubg. Run around for 20 minutes trying to find a good weapon. Then you die instantly as soon as you see someone. Boring.
I don’t want to play a game as a terrorist or a us soldier lol. I want to play as a lesbian time traveler with three blinks and recall.
I don’t think anyone here is saying to turn overwatch into a solo game. We are saying TOO much team reliance is a bad thing. Not that having a team should be removed.
People are asking to allow Carrying, or lamenting they cannot. Something prevalent in MANY games. People are saying too much team reliance is a bad thing because they don’t like they’re not 100% in control of their w/l or rank. many of the suggestions are to change the way the game actually plays, not something I want and as I’ve mentioned before not necessary for it’s “health” since it’s demonstrably functional and profitable.
Just because a game isn’t topping views or kids aren’t doing dances from it in public doesn’t mean it’s not doing OK.
Is it ok for us to practice for thousands of hours, only to lose because the team we have no control over wants to go hog/zarya against a widow with 70% aim accuracy?
Did you forget what game you’re playing? That’s your fault. You want control? Organize a team. Practice relevant things like strats with them. Make some connections with other players that you encounter who play the way you like.
Practice means nothing if you’re not practicing things relevant to the rules of the game you’re playing.
Can they? My peak is 2.1k, does that make me a gold player? If I’m in a bronze game, where the enemy team are all focusing me, and I have no space, I won’t carry.
I had a GM smurf on the enemy team once, in my rank. And we all stomped him. He couldn’t do anything. I told everyone before the match started that he was a smurf, and we all just jumped him. Completely helpless.
Overwatch had a major course shift at some point around 2017-2018. By their own admission, they did not anticipate that 1) solo-queuing and 2) one-tricking would be as popular as they are. They designed the game around grouping with friends (in fact, originally, you couldn’t solo-queue at all…in the early design, you HAD to six-stack to play the game), and for swapping characters to counter others.
The current state of the game is a consequence of realizing that players greatly prefer solo queuing and one-tricking far too late. They’ve been trying to shift the game so that no character feels completely unviable at any given time, but this has the problem of power creeping some and making others obsolete. For example, if Hanzo is just as good at killing Winston as Reaper, why would anyone ever use Reaper unless he just happens to be meta?
Look, it is impossible for one player, in a team game, to have the ability to solo carry games a significant amount of the time.
Then they need to get rid of ranked. Whats the point of ranked if i get a solo rank that isnt indicative of my skill level but rather indicative of my other 5 potatoes skill level when matched with me for the first and last time ever?
