You say this while playing at low ranks, where every single in the entire game is viable because nobody is good.
You won’t see nerfs truly affecting DPS viability because no matter what character is being played, it’s only ever being played to a fraction of it’s true potential, which is even more telling that it’s a skill issue if you’re struggling against Genji in those circumstances.
There’s always a very high correlation between what is played in OWL and what is played at the highest levels of ranked. OWL pickrate is an amazing statistic because the tools exist to get objective usage rates and winrates for heroes at the highest level, where those stats cannot be accessed for ranked.
having a way to deal with different situations is different than being able to actively counter them/beat them. what im saying is–there are players who just enjoy playing genji, and dont switch. it shouldn’t be a death sentence just because brigitte shows up, he needs a way to get away from her push, and his dash is a way to give himself some distance, so he can fight, and play the game, without being expected to switch. every hero doesnt have to be able to beat every other hero, but they are designing the game in a way where you don’t need to switch just because someone counterpicked you. the game should be playable with your main. switching should be an option, not a requirement. if something violates this rule, then that should get adjusted, because its underpowered/broken game mechanic.
Walk towards target while deflecting → hold dash → cancel deflect → instant execution with no counterplay at all.
Seeing a genji coming with deflect and knowing there is not a single thing you can do before you die by a dash will never be fun or liked by anyone except genji mains. No matter how much you nerf him.
Not to mention that it takes no aim at all. Like, less than moira.
I’m not playing at low ranks, since 2018ish i’ve been dipping in and out of diamond though admittedly mostly high-platinum.
the OWL only uses heroes they find “efficient” and that’s it. they use statistics to see which hero can effectively win and stick with it, completely leaving out any fun factor, which is the most important aspect of any video game. if it isn’t fun it needs to go. and I know fun is subjective but I dare you to find anybody who actively enjoys being killed by an ability with no counter or telegraph.
They play the strongest characters because the strongest characters & synergies are the ones that give you the best odds of winning.
If you removed every single ability & mechanic people found unfun, the game would be VRChat.
I don’t enjoy being headshot for over half of my health by hitscan heroes, I don’t particularly enjoy being displaced by boops and I don’t really enjoy getting slept by Ana.
I could go on and on, I don’t expect any of these things to be removed though because they aren’t balance problems. There will never be a game 100% catered to your personal preferences so you need to learn to live with things you don’t like being in a game you otherwise love.
