Ashe is not balanced. She not absurdly op but she’s definitely over tuned. TNT needs to be nerfed.
It is fair. Low skill floor and low skill ceiling should yield lower overall potential. High skill floor and high skill ceiling should yield higher overall potential. That’s not reflected in the stats. Put simply - Bastion (For example) should never be out performing tracer/genji/doom etc. Not unless his kit is reworked to have a higher skill threshold to warrant the higher performance.
Problem is not with Genji, but with Ashe and other DPS heroes. Genji is somewhat balanced right now. Real problem is that we have great heroes like hog and sigma, fun sucking demons like DF and mei and ball, and (i love this term) headclicking oligarchy who rules everything (with Ashe and Widow being worst offenders).
When they adress these issues - game will be better once again.
Some of the heroes that have been rotting at the bottom are far from low skill.
This argument is null because Doomfist has been scrapping the bottom of the barrel too (one of your examples of “high skill”).
You have over 30 heroes to choose and play, Genji has been one of the most consistently good heroes throughout OW’s history. Him not being good for less than a month is t going to hurt anyone. But what has been hurting the game is the negligence of several other heroes that the Dev team seems to dismiss or make false hope for.
Get to the back of the line and wait - just like many other mains have to do for months/years, next.
Any hero that can claim to be high skill should have a low win-rate. Otherwise…they’re not high skill.
A below 50% win-rate is where Genji should be.
53% winrate in the last week, and average 2.4% pickrate in GM. He’s now an average DPS.
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Actually…if he is really a “high skill” hero his win-rate is too high.
If a hero has a win-rate above 50%, they’re not high-skill. They’re average-skill at best.
If he really is intended to be “high skill”, he needs a few more strategic nerfs and his average win-rate should be around 46-48%.
McCree is the perfect example of a true high-skill hero. He’s obscenely popular with a decent pick-rate almost regardless of meta, and his win-rate consistently hovers around 46%.
Spamming right click… Damn that’s high skill.
The only skill based bit of Genji’s kit is dash distances. And that isn’t hard to do at all; it’s just double jump and dash at the feet of your enemy.
Generally, GM winrates should average at about 50-55%. This is where most heroes should be in that sorta ranking. Any less and people wouldn’t play him at all (see Sombra and Bastion).
I think GM is the only exception to this. He’s just below the average 50-55 at 49%, with a similar pickrate to Genji.
However, Widow, imo, is the highest skill ceiling DPS in the game, and her PR/WR in GM is around 5% and 53%. She just outperforms McCree rly.
Then again, most people consider her and Ashe to be broken. Which is… agreeable.
Widowmaker is obscenely broken and her design makes her impossible to balance. All of the extremely one-note heroes have that exact same problem.
Widowmaker, Reaper, Bastion, Reinhardt.
Widowmaker: all scoped 1-shots
Reaper: all point-blank raw damage
Bastion: all stationary high-dps
Reinhardt: all barrier, all the time
None are balance-able as they are. I mean, exactly what knobs are there available to tune on any of them?
He’s still the #5 top DPS pick in GM, #2 in master, #1 in diamond
Or maybe u suck and simply gotten used to an ez mode auto win hero. Sorry that you have to actually try to win now.
Win rates are meaningless … everyone wants to play a cool ninja cyborg, including my grandma, coupled with the fact that as said above, genku mains now have to learn how to play.
I agree with one thing though: deflect cancel needs to be reverted. This was an actual risk vs reward move that you had to commit to, now you can just kneejerk reflect when in doubt without any repercussion if that was the wrong decision.
Oddly, out of all of those, Widow is the only one who is easy enough to balance without needing a rework.
It’s simple; she needs counterplay. Ashe is picked a TONNE cause she is capable of duelling a Widow and winning, whilst not completely disrupting a vital comp. No other character in the GAME can do this.
I suggested (a lot I might add) on previous threads to reduce her health to 150hp. Her hitbox is tiny (Tracer sized). It would;
- Encourage less frontline Widow play
- Allow for heroes like McCree, Soldier, most up close DPS, and the likes of Reinhardt to actually pressure her significantly (one firestrike leaves her on 50hp, pretty significant imo)
- Ensures her positioning is much more critical in her play
- Actually allows Hanzo to be a viable sniper, without Widow constantly pressuring him with bodyshots.
Bastion and Reaper need full on reworks to be actually balanced. As for Rein? I don’t think he’s that broken? He’s definitely an iconic character, but I believe he has enough counterplay to warrant no real balancing. A rework to some of his numbers wouldn’t harm the character as such.
It’s GM stats, you know, that place where high skill players are…
if it was in lower elo’s it would make sense, but in lower elo’s his WR is also below 50%.
Genji is doing well in both pick and winrate in GM. He doesnt suck, hes just not an amazing pick for the average joe any longer.
How, exactly, do you add counterplay without
a) making a new anti-sniper hero or
b) redesigning her from the ground-up?
Won’t fix anything. All it will do is explode her more and make her even worse unless you have the aim of a god. And if you can aim, she’s just as broken as she’s always been until the pace of the game hits a point where she simply cannot keep up.
She would be unchanged in masters and GM, a total throw-pick in diamond and below, and benched in OWL because of how aggressive they have to play.
He’s been meta-defining and dominant in the tanking roster for almost 4 straight years with short stints on the bench during dive and double-barrier post-sigma.
Rein is the very definition of broken. But for some reason, any time he isn’t there are a lot of people who proclaim the apocalypse.
Rein is a problem because buffing him around his barrier is very difficult. His charge doesn’t have much room to work with because bad play can turn it into a game-throwing suicide-button no matter how powerful it otherwise is.
His hammer is in the same position because of how oppressive he is when he does get in-close. If the rein player doesn’t know how to properly get in-close no amount of buffing will help, but just a little buffing will make him extremely oppressive otherwise.
Firestrike is really the only ability he’s got that can be used to adjust him safely, and it’s already about as impactful as it can safely be since its next big breakpoint involves literally one-shotting people.
There is many characters, that sucked for years and have no attention from devs, Genji can finaly take a break. I still see nano - blade almost in every game anyway.
Wait what? Are you seriosuly saying that Ashe is “balanced”?
LMAO No wonder you think OP Genji of a few weeks ago was “balanced” as well.
Besides, Genji is still a reliable pick. I’ve seen him a lot of games and streams. So not sure If you are playing the same Overwatch.
bruh mccree busted people are just terrible at aiming in this game lmao he is a really good character
Genji is a tired character and should be permantently retired imo
This meta shift feels absolutely awful in mid ranks, Hog, Zarya, Ashe, Pharah, Mercy, Moira. Absolutely horrible for Genji as a character.
