"Game server connection failed...retrying"

I am getting this message over…and over…and over again when I try to get on the game. Like it is just blinking the message. Anyone else??

I’m having the same issue. Tried everything on the support page to no avail.

Hope this helps anyone else affected by this.

So weirdly enough, even though I DID update the game, and then did a scan and repair…

When I simply restarted my whole pc, I had a “new” update waiting in my launcher and then I was able to play…weird…

Me too, game + practice range UNPLAYABLE.

“Connection to server could not be established.” (“Verbindung zum Server konnte nicht hergestellt werden.”)

It’s 100% reproducible every single time when trying to enter the practice range or queue for any game mode (ranked, quickplay, etc.). I have tried repairing the game, which took over an hour, and multiple troubleshooting steps, but nothing has resolved the issue yet.

Ticket Summary:

  • Ticket Number: EU96051080
  • Status: Open
  • Last Update: Just now

Timeline of the Issue:

  • 3 weeks ago: Initial report that I was getting disconnected while queuing for games, resulting in deserter penalties even though it was not due to leaving games voluntarily. My internet is stable, and everything else works fine.
  • Support Response: I was informed that repeated leaving would result in penalties, but my issue is not about leaving games; it’s about not being able to join due to a technical problem.
  • 2 weeks ago: I clarified again that I was not leaving games but was stuck outside matches due to a bug. Support suggested basic troubleshooting steps like resetting the network, updating drivers, and optimizing the internet connection—all of which I tried without success.
  • 1 week ago: After more troubleshooting (releasing/renewing IP, clearing DNS, repairing the game), the issue persisted. I could not even access the practice range.
  • 4 days ago: I ran a full scan and repair for Overwatch, which took 1-3 hours, but the problem continued.
  • 3 days ago: I reported that the error “Connection to server could not be established.” appears consistently.
  • 2 days ago: Game Master suggested deleting settings files and repairing again. I deleted the settings file and tried again, but the issue persisted. Still unable to play in any capacity.
  • 1 day ago: I confirmed that the game worked perfectly on this PC for years before this issue began.
  • Current Situation: Despite all efforts, the issue remains unresolved. I’m unable to play any game mode. I suspect this might be related to recent server issues, but I would appreciate confirmation if other players are experiencing the same.

Additional Information:

  • I’ve seen multiple reports from other players on the forums facing similar problems, especially in the past two weeks. It seems to be a widespread issue affecting many users (

Blizzard Forums).

Would appreciate any further assistance or acknowledgment of this issue affecting other players.

Still.

changed IPV4 6 things made sure no VPN and other stuff

Anyone else?

I’m experiencing the same issue as you are and my account has even become banned in competitive play. When I went to report my issue the only resource I was given was that comp banned can never be lifted.

Interessting how it works for most people but some just cant play the game at all. like they are locked out or smth. Weird

“Connection to server could not be established” still noting changed soon its 2 months crazy and its not like i did not make multible tickets. Did it resolve for anyone yet?

Maybe they just kick some people out to have less server costs? i mean seems weird like there is not even a hint at what is happenening from the tickets. Seems even weirder that it persists so long after

I completely uninstalled my game, deleted anything associated with OW2 from my pc, restarted my PC, reinstalled the game and I was able to get on again after that…it was super weird…

It is still broken for me. Was it fixed for any of you? I hope we soon get some notice that anyone is working on it and taking us seriously otherwise it could dwindle the playerbase and endager Overwatch. Thanks!

for me, it is magically fixed.
many users are still reporting this issue is going on

Just happened to me again…

Match had just started, then everyone started floating around the map right before the server lost connection.

I swear they’ve moved the servers over to McDonald’s wi-fi…

Well, looks like the nuke hack is back…

Was doing great. My team was winning the match. All of a sudden, my entire team got frozen while the enemy killed us off one by one until my entire team got disconnected from the match…

Thanks Blizzard for providing us with such an amazing anti-cheat that does literally nothing to prevent these things from happening… I’m just glad it wasn’t competitive…

Update on third ticket with multible GM’s that often just link to support articles. Instructions allready followed still the same.

I’ve been facing a severe issue for over 1.5 months where every attempt to enter any game mode or practice range results in the error: “Verbindung zum Server konnte nicht hergestellt werden.” (Translation: “Connection to server failed.”). This is consistent and prevents any gameplay.

Overview:

  • Issue: Unable to access any game mode, including practice range. Error is 100% reproducible.
  • Duration: Ongoing for over 1.5 months.
  • Attempts to Resolve:
    • Full reinstallation of Battle.net and Overwatch.
    • Complete network resets (netsh int ip reset, netsh winsock reset), DNS flush, and router/modem restarts.
    • Verified firewall/antivirus settings; no VPN or proxy interference.
    • ISP consultation (Sunrise/UPC) confirmed no network issues or blocks.
    • Tried different accounts and devices—issue persists.

Support Experience:

I’ve worked with multiple Game Masters who have suggested basic troubleshooting steps, which I followed meticulously. Unfortunately, the issue remains unresolved, and responses have not escalated beyond standard recommendations. This has left me and others with similar issues in a frustrating limbo.

Request:

If anyone else is experiencing this or has found a solution, please share your insights. It would be greatly appreciated if Blizzard could acknowledge this as an ongoing problem and provide a roadmap for resolution.

Thank you for any assistance or advice.

Best,
Marco (TheGrind)
