[Feedback Thread Continued Part III] Mercy Updates - Jan 30, 2018

That could be interesting to do nowadays, with all these bloodlust counters xd

To be honest the design of Mass Rez was in favor of Tempo Rezzing given the low ult charge requirement and the feature before invulnerability that you would likely die if you Rezzed 5 unless they all died near cover. However, people wanted those 5-mans so much that the Devs gave invulnerability just to make that strategy rewarding almost always, and then didn’t do LoS or pre-effect cast-times because they wanted “Huge Rezzes” to be near guaranteed or it would be unfun. Then go ahead make Rez into a common ability and then give it counterplay.

Still… 1.0 version of it was quite a nice counter to all these “USING ALL THE ULTIMATES AT ONCE!” ;p

Resurrection is implied by her ability to treat any injuries, even lethal. That’s also why Mercy is “miracle worker”: recovering someone from near-death in seconds is a miracle.

But were is the point, if it’s no fun? We are playing a game after all and after my observation This kit from Mercy is the most hated one.

Fun is subjective and the people who tend to find mercy fun aren’t complaining as loudly as the people who are saying fun isn’t subjective game balance be damned over my enjoyment.

Which now has no counter: all remaining defensive ultimates can be overwhelmed. Strategy? Who needs it, brute force all the way.

So instead of making it counterable, they replaced into something which is counterable lightly.

Sure fun is subjective. I know that. But look at uprising, a game mode made for fun. Last year Mercy was almost every time picked first, now she is almost every time the last picked hero with a lot of waiting time and that relatively often. Seems like players don’t really enjoy Mercy’s current kit and if i look at her qp pick rate… that was higher as well before the rework. Also a game mode which is more based on fun.

She was balanced before her rework as well as fun to play and to play with (on the team) and for me it was even more fun to play against her, because you needed a different skill than just “Shoot stuff to win”.

Because she was a must pick and you refuse to admit it.

It not actually said that Mercy has the “ability to treat any injuries, even lethal” in her lore. The closest it gets to that is “[Mercy] radically improved the treatment of life-threatening illnesses and injuries”. Its implied in ways, but really Resurrect is just a concept that doesn’t conflict with her lore, but doesn’t get reinforced by it either.

If Resurrect is to be so core to her character then it should be explicit in her lore.

Unfortunately the ability in game works against the rest of her kit now, so I say that if it cannot go back to the Ultimate (it should and keep the cast-time) then it should go away.

It’s more about Genji, than Mercy: Genji was nearly killed by Hanzo, and Mercy managed to save his life. With how much of his body is artificial, it’s safe to say that his injuries were beyond normal recovery.

Would prefer resurrect to turn into passive ability, like “heal dead teammate to resurrect”. Healing can be adjusted, like 50% of normal, on dead teammates.

Basically that is what has happened.

I’m not refusing anything. She was a must pick after her rework, as i already said. Before that, sure she was important, but still only an option not a MP.
The reason for that was Dive which she didn’t even enabled, that was Zen.
We had only 2 main healers in that time and Ana was very useless, what do you expect?

Unfortunately you cannot argue on the grounds of fun, but then again people said it wasn’t fun to play against, so yeah…

You can however argue in terms of design, but no matter what if common ground is not established then there will not be agreement.

You say one thing and then you do the exact opposite.
If 1 team had mercy she was a must pick for the other team to have a fighting chance against mass rez.

It’s called reading between the lines and understanding implications. You, so far, seem to be the only one who misunderstood it and took my statement word for word literally. It’s a basic skill that I learned in middle school English.

Let’s break down the statement.

“Funnily enough, Mercy took Ana’s place. And now she’s here and Moira is preferred by a lot of Mercy players.”

“Funnily enough Mercy took Ana’s place, and now she’s here.” - implying her role and status have been drastically altered, like Ana. Whereas she was once the most viable main healer between her and Ana (with many players preferring Mercy) , she has gone down in the eyes of Mercy players, and the teammates of said players, therefore taking the same status as someone she once surpassed to a WIDE margin.

“and Moira is preferred by a lot of Mercy players.” since many Mercy players find Mercy unfun to play, and Ana isn’t 100 percent viable in the current meta, Moira - by comparison - is a great healer. Offering utility DPS and powerful healing, along with high mobility, she’s an engaging and fun healer. There’s been many statements on these forums via Mercy mains, who have said they prefer Moira as she’s more enjoyable than current Mercy. Hell, I see Mercy players picking up a plethora of different heroes - Zarya, Rein, Orisa, Moira, Brigitte, Zen. Moira is just the most common as I know lots of Mercy players enjoy playing main healer.

All in all, I was referring to it as a food chain. Pick up Ana, she gets nerfed. So, pick up Lucio, he gets nerfed. So, pick up Mercy, she gets reworked and nerfed. Pick up Moira because she is an engaging and fun main healer.

It was hardly a ‘vague ramble.’

Mercy is played in Comp the amount she is because people want to win and Mercy is consistent in aiding in that, so that’s why she’s picked. The fun is the winning not anything else.

Truly unfortunate that that stop gap to just “Shoot stuff to win” has been removed for now since that made for more thoughtful play, but the Mass Rez did need away to counter it before its effects went off, but you need to be able to do things while that cast-time is occurring otherwise it becomes oppressive to use (like it is now).

I agree. If blizzard wants to keep res a part of her kit, it needs to be an ultimate. If not, they need to remove res and give her an ability that is actually good at doing something that flows with her kit.

I didn’t say that. I said that this was the case with Mercy 2.x not 1.x.
Mass Res didn’t required you to have Mercy as well.
