Fair ways to nerf Doomfist [Doom nerfed on PTR!]

Note: It’s not delete “name” hero thread. I don’t want to destroy or make Doomfist unfun to play. I just want him to be more fair.
All edits were made to update some information and make thread more tactful.


After spending more time in comp I’ve noticed Doomfist is in every match. Every third match i got hide-and-one shot by random doomfist while playing as support. Now let’s take a look at top 500 DPS in current BETA season (since I’m level trust 2 here’s a great thread about it):

Doomfist is everywhere! (on par with Widow, Hanzo and Genji, but it’s another story)
And guess what? Instead they locked Symmetra in dumbster tier again!
Role lock revealed how much he’s powerful. Blizzard need to do something about him as soon as possible.
Ground up rework would be great, but now they need to tone him down immediately.

P.S. You know there’s something wrong with game mechanic when you have to counter CC-damage hero using another CC-damage hero (especially since Sombra is nerfed).

Before i start this discussion:

“No.”
Yes! Doomfist needs to be toned down (a little bit at least)

“Doomfist have so many counters”
LOL. Imagine if he didn’t.

“Doomfist requires skill”
Every hero requires skill, even heroes with one star difficulty.

“Doomfist is the high risk - high reward hero”
The reward is way too high (you, fellow Doomfist mainers, are not just annoy whole enemy team with CC, you’re destroy them with right play).

Alright, so the title says it.

With brand new role queue (now there’s always 2 healers so Doomfist players now getting a lot of heals) it’s obvious that Doomfist is a very very powerful hero (and very annoying).
So I think one of this nerfs (maybe even couple of them) would be very fair to execute:


1. Nerf his survivability: “Best defense” passive ability.

Doomfist got 250 hp (one of the highest DPS health). With “Best defense” ability he’s generate personal shields when he deals ability damage with maximum of 150 shields (250+150=400 hp Meanwhile Sigma and Zarya (both tanks) have 400 health either).

2. Make shields stop his Rocket Punch (just like Briggite’s Shield Bash)

In my opinion it won’t hurt him too much and will fit in overall Overwatch abilities logic.
(UPD: Yes, i agree. This nerf is unacceptable in current double shields meta).

3. Increase his Rocket Punch cooldown or decrease it’s distance

One-shot ability every 4 second isn’t very fair.

4. Remove his CC time completely

Maybe it’s not the fair nerf but there’s way too many CC in Overwatch.

This is by far my favorite thing, especially because I prefer it if things are consistent. Brigitte lost the ability to charge through shields, but this creates unnecessary complexity IMO.

Rather, look at CC-through-shields in general: Reinhardt, Doomfist and Brigitte used to be able to do it. Is it okay? Is it too strong? Either way, apply the desired result to all such effects, then tweak only the differentiating elements like windup, speed, distance, etc.

And unlike Widow, Doom needs wall to one shot.
Actually I will agree only with his passive, and still, he had to flank behind with his abilities being CD and survive this 4 seconds. Sombra is his hard counter, use it.

Brig is a healer, while Doom is DPS. Healer having this ability is OP, but imo DPS with this ability is fine. MccRee can stun Rein if he throw his flash above the shield.

I think all of these sound like fair, reasonable changes to a character who is overtuned (IMO). The shield one is the most logical to me, considering the situation with brig. I’d be fine with any of them.

He has some of the highest dps health but also the biggest hit box

If shields stop his rocket punch he will completely lose viability. We just added yet another barrier hero to the game. He’s a melee hero, barriers shouldn’t be a problem for him.

Rocket punch is one of the best sources of his mobility. Increasing cd will similarly screw him

Hell no to removing his cc. His slam cc is basically nonexistent, his uppercut cc was already nerfed to be unreliable, and his fist needs it

  1. Is possible. It was actually suggested to have his Shield Gains reverted back to 30 from 35 before the Sledgehammer Nerfs came.

  2. I would go with “No” for all Shields in general because SB not going through them is already a weird and wonky interaction. It should at least go through Deployable Shields (Orisa, Sigma, Winston).

  3. We can go the other way around and increase the charge time instead. They can add visual queues by making the Fist brighter on how much charge it already has.

  4. The only CC that needs adjustment is on SS. Since they had to bring back the Pull to prevent the Boop bug. They could have gone with a Slow instead like being sprayed by Mei’s primary for a split second. So it doesn’t pull you up and stop your momentum like what Wrecking Ball does.

I would like to add that Satellite Cannon of an Ult that is used as a Get Out of Jail Free Card should really be reworked to something better offensively like Dragon Blade and fair for the ones being targetted, nobody likes to play footsie as your only counterplay. At least the power will be with his Ult and you can revert the CD of his Skills by doing so.

Keeping the Ult gimp will continue to be the reason his Skill remains as is.

But this are just my 2 cents. You may ignore~

It is when you have to stand still and charge it, and then you send yourself into the enemy team where you can be hooked and deleted.

That’s all I’m gonna say just because I don’t feel like typing atm, but yeah.
