No at least the royals serve as officers in the wars they start. Our politicians dont even do that.
And it made headlines because such a tragedy is so rare in Canada.
There were 23 reported shootings in the USA already this month.
Um yes? You can never stub out violence but you can sure as heck do what you can to reduce casualties.
âOh well violence is going to happen anywayâ isnât problem solving, itâs problem enabling.
Ah yes I always worry on my walk to work that I will be randomly targeted for assault.
The shooting in Uvalde is the 27th school shooting in the US this year. Iâd love to see you tell these school kids that current gunlaws are for their/your protection.
You can bring up hundreds of mass killings and say this, but it doesnât change the fact things like this rarely happen in Canada and the UK and make headline news, while this is almost a daily occurrence in the US. If 1 person gets shot in the UK the entire country knows about it.
Damn this is turning into twitter 2.0
We had a 9 year old girl killed in Liverpool recently due to a gang war gone wrongâŚand the whole country was in uproar.
21 kids were killed in Texas a few months ago and all people say is âthoughts and prayersâ and move on.
this is just dumb-it can be worse, and while tragic, itâs good that that individual didnât posses an automatic firearm, or it could be worse. 10 people is horrific, but twenty is even more so. yes it was a failure on the part of law enforcement, but that has nothing to do with guns. anything that makes it easier for a person to carry out murder isnât good, and more lives are lost than saved by civilians having guns.
Personally, I think monarchy is outdated.
I canât imagine us Germans still having actual royals leading the countryâŚ
this âin theory, but never in practiceâ line about the monarchyâs dictatorial powers is just that: a line. it is not true. The monarchy exercised its ability to liquidate or suspend colonial parliaments and impose its rule directly, through the corrupt institution of the governors general, multiple times in history. And not even that long ago. Just two examples right off the top of my mind: in Australia when a left government was elected in the 70âs, and in Canada when a right-wing government was in danger of losing a vote of no confidence in parliament in the 2000s. The monarchy was also mobilizing for a pro-Nzi palace coup during WWII.
People underestimate how dangerous this dictatorial institution, this leftover of medieval backwardness, truly is.
unless ur name is meghan markle
Huh. Did not know royals followed the same rule as popes.
But why is a firearm considered a weapon and not a knife? Or a bag of fertilizer, which can be used to make really bad things.
Saying someone doesnât need something doesnât mean anything. Maybe John is handicapped and wants to feel safe at home.
yeah, iâd imagine sheâs happy thereâs one less geriatric racist in the world
The Queen has always split opinions on her and her family.
I donât think Andrew is a topic allowed on the forum.
Either way. Thatâs my two cents.
agreed
its not the fault of law enforcement when the courts release someone who had 59 prior convictions. please do not confuse the two
We have similar headlines over here for the same reasons, so I doubt its rarity is the only reason it made headlines.
Thatâs literally my point though. Saying âWell, it could have been worse!â is literally enabling violence by not tackling the real issues. You think banning guns will suddenly fix things, but in the end, you will be the one enabling the violence by repeating the âit could have been worse!â nonsense.
Youâre supposed to be prepared for the worse case scenario. Better to have it and not need it, and the like. Regardless, some of us live in worse neighborhoods. I certainly donât have the room to think like you do.
I wouldnât ever tell school kids this simply because, like most of you here, I doubt theyâd be able to understand for a variety of reasons. I wouldnât tell a victim of any crime something like that.
For example, if someone got brutally beaten by a mugger, do you think theyâre ready to hear something like âI think violence is wrong, so if you fought back, youâd be exactly as bad as the mugger!â?
Also, youâre failing pretty hard to defend your position. All I want to know is why you think average people shouldnât have guns. So far youâve
1.) Appealed to popularity. âIf you disagree, youâre the exact kind of American people look down on!â.
2.) Appealed toâŚfalse security? "well, think about how bad it would have been if he had a gun! Good thing only 10 people died!
3.) Done that thing where you say âIf i have to explainâŚâ, which usually just means you donât know what youâre talking about.
Thatâs true, but Iâm bringing it up to better explain my point: from my perspective, violent crime is on the rise in multiple countries. I think this is a big issue, but it looks like weâre getting lost in the weeds while talking about guns.
Thatâs the only reason I keep referencing Canada, but thereâs more places where this crime has happened. I think the longer we pretend banning guns is going to fix things, the worse weâll all be for it.
Iâm just not amazed by this argument. Saying âGood thing he didnât have an automaticâ doesnât matter when it was still a mass killing.
Could it be because the continental U.S. is just as close in size to all of Western Europe?
Woah, a large country has a lot more gun deaths compared to a bunch of little European countries! Who would have thought
You really hate Americans donât you?
Itâs funny when people call Americans egotistical jerks who look down upon others yet thereâs people like you who do the exact thing we are accused of.
Personally, I think its
Gun culture + more people + historic unhappiness in the US. And that banning guns will never fix that because of the other issues.
Most of em do. Some of them blame guns for their hate, but in reality its just donât like us. That said, Iâll never take them serious if they canât at least defend their points.
She couldnât handle the Bp news
Yeah true
Yeah, haters gonna hate
Also this may tie into the unhappiness, but so much of this country is drugged out of its mind. But of course nobody wants to talk about that part of the issue.
Itâs just guns bad.
