RIP. i was hoping she’d make it to 100, what a shame.
not a fan of monarchy (especially the british flavour and its history) but as an individual i think she did the best she could. it’s not like she could flip around entire institutions on her own.
being queen, she basically gave her life away to serve. that’s dedication i don’t think many people have. my condolences to the family (except andrew)
nobody does…
Britain will now follow a 10-day national period of mourning, with the Queen’s funeral due to take place on the 10th day.
There is no obligation for employers to give staff a day off for the funeral, although there will be a nationwide two minutes silence during the ceremony.
I’m pretty positive that you guys have no idea what you’re talking about. All of this talk seems like stuff I’ve heard other people say, so I’ll ask you the same questions I asked that other guy:
What do you mean? What makes you think you can be the judge?
Yup violence will happen regardless, but preventing the average citizen from obtaining weapons just seems like common sense. John that works at Walmart does not need a shotgun.
If you fail to see and understand this logic, you are exactly the type of American that the rest of the world looks down on.
But why? People always say things like this like they can decide common sense, but people never seem to have the ability to elaborate.
There is never a point in my life where I’ll take this seriously. Basically, you’re saying “take my opinion that I cannot elaborate on, and if you don’t agree, you’re bad.” That’s incredibly poor argumentation and you know it.
in the UK they don’t have practice drills where you have to practice with your class to hide from a person who invaded your school with weapons, something I experienced in an American school when I was younger and lived in US for 1.5 years. It was like a fire drill but instead of practicing how to leave exits we were learning how to hide and protect ourselves, like that is terrifying stuff for some little kids y’no
but what symbolism, most of the constitutional monarchies in the world reprsent some of the most successful, most developed, most progressive, most stable, most happiest nations on the planet.
if youre talking about the fact it involves hereditry power then its not like that doesnt exist ia different form today or maybe the atrocities done under monarchies in the past then thats not exclusive to just the monarchy there been plenty of proto democracies, theocratic, communal collectives oligarchies mercantile system all of which exist today that done unspeakable acts. no form of government is without sin and none are better than other. there are only ones that work in the moment that suit the needs of their people.
This isn’t an argument for guns to be removed. What if someone breaks into the school with a knife and stabs 10 students? From my perspective, banning guns seems like a bandaid solution for people to say “See, only 10 people got killed instead of 20!” while everyone knows the banning of guns helped nothing.
As I said before, these arguments really are starting to lose their flavor simply because, in my opinion at least, violent crime seems to be on an uptick around the world. You’d rather we not have guns simply because school shooter drills are hard to stomach? IMO, those drills do more than banning guns ever will.
French decapitated its monarchy. Best idea they ever had.
But if I need to explain to you why giving privileges to a family only because they share the same blood, even if they don’t have the power that was removed from them because it was a dictature and still the symbol of it is not moral…
Why should a citizen have access to a weapon? The sole use of a gun is to cause death.
I didn’t say you’re bad for your opinion. I said you’re the type of american the rest of the world looks down on.
Your children are getting brutally murdered. Seppos…
If we’re talking about civilised countries (I assume we can consider USA civilised?), nobody comes anywhere near close to America when it comes to shootings.
Allowing Americans to carry weapons is like giving a child a sharp knife.
guns just enable a lot of slaughter that could very easily be avoided. Depending on how many people were nearby, the guy who killed ten people with a knife could’ve killed even more.
Every time I read “but if I have to explain”, its just a red flag that you don’t know what you’re talking about. Its clear why I’m asking this: people are allowing talking heads to tell them what the “correct” opinion is, and I’m honestly tired of seeing that kind of influence on people.
I’m proven right by the numerous posts that go like “I have a commonly accepted opinion”. and then when I go “but why?”, the poster goes “seriously! Are you serious!? Do I have to explain!?”.
What if someone’s trying to assault you, so you have to kill them? What if you have to hunt for food or cull a local population of coyotes? Besides, guns aren’t just for killing. You can do competitive target or skeet shooting.
Not an argument. I do not know this “rest of the world” people, and honestly other countries have reasons for me to look down on them too. Japan and Australia are both notoriously racist, honestly more racist than even America (feel free to ask me why), so as a black person that’s already a great reason for me to find them contemptable.
Not just my children. That mass stabbing in Canada claimed 10 lives, and no gun was in sight. For the third time, you will have to try harder.
He still did mass slaughter. Are we really at the point where we’re saying “Yeah, he killed 10 people, but it could have been worse! 21 people died in Uvalde!”.
10 people died. 10. That’s still mass slaughter. Any “it could be worse if he had a gun” is just cope at that point. I’d only agree if he killed 2 people before he was stopped. If a killed can be still described as “mass” it doesn’t matter if things would have been worse with a gun. We still failed to stop mass casualties.
he could still abdicate, edward the VIII was king for a short time before the pressure got him to give it up so he can marry his wife. I am willingly to give him a chance but if not he should be like his mother and serve the people and abdicate in favour of his son who more favoured in the public image
