D.VA Self-Destruct

Now, i’m new at the game, but i was wondering. Is it just me, or is the range of the explosion on the ability completely unreasonable? I feel like it’s literally 3 times as long as it should be, for an ability that basically 1 shots most of the classes that have zero way to get away from it.

use walls, the further you are from it the less dmg it will do as well, it has a huge wind up time

Gamesense 404? You should know when she has bomb, and when she is about to use it, and prepare your allies for that. It takes ages to explode, which allows you to simply walk around the corner if you know what positioning term is in overwatch.

Every single hero has a way to shield, counter, or escape D.Va’s bomb. It’s remarkably easy to avoid, if you have the discipline to not be carelessly throwing away your valuable abilities. Often time a teammate will even come to your rescue, saving you the hassle of even trying to save yourself.

Palm trees work too.

Giant warning when you’re “in range” on your screen, huge windup, avoided by LOS.

Sometimes you can’t but usually that’s just good planning on the DVAs part. You can also shield if you have it cause shields don’t need to block ALL the damage because it’s one huge hit, or even invuln through it.

Remember the noise and the voiceline and be aware of when she has it. Also realize that CC moves affect it. It can be booped away or even hooked somewhere better if you got your TaB up.

There is lots of counterplay and a good DVA bomb is very hard to pull off.

I know how to use cover if available. Im an OW noob, not new at FPS games. I just hate being on a hero like Ana, or other slower paced heroes and watching that thing come in your general direction, and having no way to avoid dying if theres no cover and no way to kill her outside the mech. You can’t always have cover

you asked whether it was unreasonable, there ARE about two or three heroes that cant escape it easily such as ana or zen but once you learn how to position you should handle it better even as those heroes, just a tip the payload doesnt stop it either, it used to, it no longer does

Actually, i usually eat it on Ana. I guess you remember the times you can’t escape it easier lol

okay? then whyd you make a forum post about it? idk man i dont play either hero, those are just the heroes off the top of my head with no mobility at all, if you usually eat it anyway whats the issue?

The range is quite huge

But it’s more than reasonable when you factor in how long it actually takes to go off from the time it’s launched.

This is a game where heroes can fly, blink, teleport, dash, sprint, build walls or entomb themselves in ice, turn into an intangible myst form, recall, climb walls, make themselves go super saiyan, bubble themselves or others, on and on and on. The overwhelming majority of the cast has a viable means to protect themselves, or get to cover well before that bomb goes off.

If you “don’t have enough time”, the dva timed her bomb very well and caught you off guard. You dying to her ultimate in that scenario is warranted

you can literally hide behind a trashcan and it wont even touch you

You know the mechanics that you can use cover. You don’t have the experience to know where to position so you’d maximize the opportunity to have cover. Two different things. If you could always have cover then the ult would be useless. It’s a matter of gamesense, knowing when D.Va has ult and where she’ll likely to use it. And you can only get that by playing the game.

I get it, it’s frustrating, but trust me. It’s fine.

I just accept my fate and die by it every time…It always gets me in places without cover. Like on top of the payload. And the explosion goes under it.

Because i felt like making a post about it

exactly, if every single hero could always avoid it then it wouldnt even be worth using in the slightest considering dva is very weak out of mech, playing dva is about knowing who cant get away from it and watching for the mobility abilities of heroes that can so you catch them off guard

Im not bothered about the fact that you get hit by it. Lots of ultis will hit you. Its the fact it one shots you on top of having huge range. That’s what i find unreasonable.

welcome to ultimates

Yes, and also people should try playing D.Va. Not gonna lie it was the same thing people complaing about mass rez back in the day. They didn’t know when the ult was coming, it’s like they completely removed it from their mind. The more you play that hero the more you can predict how enemies are gonna use 'em.

Everything can be a one shot especially ultimates. D.Va’s is actually one the easiest tank ult to counter. It has a long wind up, unlike shatter, grave, sigma ult, even Orisa’s new ult. All you really need is a shield from a tank OR have the experience to know when to expect it so you can position yourself better.

Like really. At Orisa’s ult which sucks you in to her and basically slows you from moving is harder to deal with when you’re none mobile because with Orisa she can hunt you down herself. D.Va’s ult is far more predictable.
