No role is useless because the match maker adjusts the difficulty in winning games based on the role. With that being said, I think that on average, tank role does have the strongest carry potential in OW2.
But like Iâve said before, because the matchmaker gives the tank role harder games, that gives the tank role their own set of challenges to deal with. In another words, I donât think a DPS or support role would be able to handle tankâs matchmaking algorithm because tanks get harder matchmaking. Both DPS and support have their own matchmaking algorithm based on their role and its carry potential/impact in their game.
So ultimately, youâll climb on any role as long as youâre performing above average in your rank.
I donât think that DPS is useless role. They have more tools to kill or closing distance than supports. The problem is that these supports too effective right now, so they eliminate errors of their allies. I mean: ANA, Kiriko, Juno, Moira. Devs should do something with them. Juno and Moira are not so problematic but they still have effectiveness than other supports on your team. So either we need buff others, (Lucio, who suffers after adding Juno?) either nerf them. And I think the last option is more prefering⌠cause in other case supports really would be dominant
Sometimes holding the point just long enough can help you win the game.
For DPS, its all about who you are attacking. If you attack and kill only DPS, you might have little impact. But if you are attack an enemy DPS who keeps killing your Support, that can be quite impactful! Or if you keep killing an Enemy Support who is playing as a DPS instead of healing, that could have little impact. But if attack an enemy Support who us efficiently healing their Tank, that can have quite a bit of impact.
Its all about proper context and strategic attacking
Between all the passives and perks the amount of hidden numbers playing the game on auto for players is actually stupid. People wonder why they have no individual impact.
Not even close to true in this universe mate. Theres only ONE Enemy Tank, theres TWO DPS on the enemy team you need to outplay consistently. Odds are on my favor again.

Yeah, tanks and supps were already dps hybrid in OW1(more than enough damage without dps, proven by goats), but theyâre even more so in OW2, meaning theyâre âdps and moreâ roles, and one of the few unique dps properties : burst damage is also almost removed.
Dps role doesnât have any uniqueness anymore unless dead weight can be a uniqueness. It can safely be removed, and then the dps heroes can be reworked into tanks/supps. Whatâs important is the hero roster, not the roles after all. Also, it could solve the huge popularity difference between roles, and when it happens OQ could also be revived without extreme team composition diffs.

Thatâs because it doesnât really matter how many kills you get.
Your team has to work together to claim objective. You can run around the map and get 100 kills without dying, but if you arenât actively helping your team claim objective, then no, youâre not going to win.
Dps and kills donât matter as much as control of the point
So often I see people a mile away from the point letting the team capture or push itâs wild.
The Fact you need to overtune a character to burst through all the healing/immos just to get a Kill sorta explains itself on whatâs actually wrong here, I donât like sojourn but i sure as hell am using her against these busted heals. Now SUFFER
The problem with this thinking is that the Tank-role is in a minority of players. It really isnât because the game is intentionally giving harder games to the Tank-role, but rather, it is trying to fill as many games as possible with as few as Tanks available, so it would like the MMR isnât working as effectively as it would for other roles with the Tank-role.
So for Tank players, they may end up in games that are hitting more extremes; extremely easy, and extremely hard.
And that, might in turn, be affecting how the MMR is sorting players into very lopsided games, or could be a combination of win rates furthering issues with OW2âs matchmaker.
I canât agree that DPS feel useless when we have Sojourn, Genji, and Ashe right now lol.
DPS role is one of if not the most important role in the game.
I can be supporting you with crazy heal numbers but if youâre not getting kills, weâre not winning games.
The tank makes room, the DPS secures kills, the support makes sure youâre alive.
I feel the support role has the least amount of impact on the game because they are the least likely to secure kills.
