I had a alienware r4 i7 at 4.2 6 cores gtx 1070 with * GB gddr aa pcie SSD 16gb of ram. had to send it back in 3 times this time will be my 4th CPU overheating. 2k down the hole runs overwatch at epic at 18-48 fps on epic my system should blow past that made my cpu 100c or 212 f dell sucks
That’s why you build your own PC, having a pre-built before, I can say, is one of the worst ways to go about getting a PC.
I paid $1000 for mine and I can only run OW at about 110-120 FPS… my friend built his for $800 and gets a solid 170-200 FPS.
And whadya know, mines an Alienware too…
Oh yeah. Prebuilts are acceptable. ibuypower/cyberpower/razer or etc.
But Alienware is a scam. They should get sued
im on a dell rn
alienware is wellknown to be bad just like Razer
You have more than enough to run that frame rate. I have almost literally the same stuff and I am doing just fine. I can run the game Ultra at like 150 fps or something like that. Something tells me maybe your GPU was not set-up properly and everything was running on the CPU.
My Omen HP T15 has overheating issues too, so you would usually have to buy fans for them.
Omen isn’t that reliable either.
I’ll usually run 140-200 frames, then it will just get down to 20-30 when it overheats, which I hate so much.
Dell used to be good, my company uses them but ever since they went private again they went to crap. The old latitude systems were rock solid! But the new ones suck, they don’t know how to do cooling right.
Msi is probably best bet for gaming laptop
i feel you, Love.
That is why this old man has been doing only custom rigs for the past 14-15 years and i always espouse doing your own builds over buying a pre-made. To that end, i was building custom rigs for friends and relatives annually for the past 12 years as well. They are all very happy with their rigs and i get to play with all the newest tech as i assemble the rigs…only sad thing is i have been out of practise for the past 2 years because i have no time to help others build a PC.
For laptops I never buy high end, I get mid-range things like 1060 Q-max for games while traveling. This is because brands like Dell or Lenovo, etc, don’t care about thermals. They’ll sell you the specs and then let you poor hot lava on your investment. I’m sorry to see another person go through this.
Otherwise though, I highly suggest building a desktop rig if you want higher end like that 1070 you have in there (or 1080, etc).
PS, August 20th better be the 11-series review or ima punch Nvidia
stop buying laptops for gaming (:
My Acer does a great job
My Macbook pro does a fine j… coughs
At least you get to play games on your laptop. My Macbook Pro (max specced 15" 2016 model) burns my lap if I run anything that requires the AMD Polaris GPU to be used at all, not that it matters since hardly any games are released on Mac (though I could run windows or Parallels on it). Mine’s good for work though…
i have a msi gl62m 7rdx, and i cracked its display, i have it on a external monitor now, very small difference in performance, solid laptop all together. I dont average 60 fps though, more like 52-53 with 60 at less intense parts. Runs gta v super smoothly though.
I’ve had my R3 as my college laptop for almost a year now, never had any problems with it.
I also have two Alienware monitors, they’re great.
I like Alienware
I had a lot of trouble with my Alienware laptop a few years ago. Definitely never buying one again. The first one they shipped me had to be shipped right back because they’d messed up something with the hard drives. The second one had lots of blue screens and driver issues. Not to mention it was overpriced for what the laptop was. Disappointing.
Alienware is the Nike of sneakers. Part of what you’re paying for is the name.
My Dell is actually pretty good.
Oh hey, I have the GL62 6QF. It runs Overwatch really well, I just need a monitor that lets me go above 60fps.
If yours is anything like mine, you should be able to upgrade the RAM if you want more frames.
it has a 30hz monitor? I didnt think those existed lol.
As someone who’s run games at 10 fps for 10 years on a Dell laptop (studio 1569), it really comes down to “it’s effective”. I only ever had issues with the disk drives.
Same with my first Dell laptop, an Inspiron 6000.
I’m now happily running Overwatch at 60-80 FPS, on a new Dell laptop that has yet to be give me any problems.
I’m a very happy potato.
