Director’s Take – Reflecting on the future of Overwatch 2

Heroes of the Storm 2.0 was just a monetization update and back then we were grateful >:(

“Overwatch 2 Story Missions!: Free trial, then $9 to replay!”

You know what, I’d love this, and then I’d love to watch the forums… not change at all. Because they haven’t since OW1.

thats not what they are saying at all

Why lie through obfuscation for 18 months?

then dont waste you money on “this garbage monetisation game” your so over reacting

It just baffles me how we got to this point. Overwatch 1 was absolutely huge on launch and more than lived up to the hype and now it’s a complete laughing stock. It’s basically a reverse No Man’s Sky.

This comes across as nothing less than severe mismanagement, and a lot of players are quite understandably upset. This does nothing to restore confidence in the ability of the development team to deliver on any promises.

All I can say is, I hope the development team is able to obtain/retain enough personnel to do better going forward. But I’m not sure this can really be made right without either getting the staff to actually finish and deliver what was announced, or else at least producing some quality, replayable PvE.

I’m here for the PvP, but this is basically catastrophic and is going to leave people concerned about the team’s ability to maintain that properly as well. Lifeweaver being released feeling like a rough draft of a hero doesn’t help the situation.

That’s what im saying can you read?

its not dead just because of these news quit over reacting

We need to hear from the game worker’s alliance or developers speaking to the press. It seems evident the lack of resources and staff forcing the rug pull was a corporate management decision.

You can’t overcome the alienation between the community and devs when we have no real idea what happened based on this.

Aaron, I appreciate the from the heart message. The removal of talents sucks and I still hope they somehow find their way into the game, even if only in a simplified form. But sometimes work projects get tough, things have to be cancelled or downscaled, and that’s just life.

It’s not like you came to my home and stole my oatmeal or anything, and I consider this far less catastrophic than Brig 1.0. Just nerf sustain and stop adding invincibility mechanics, because the promise of increased lethality is slipping away fast, and I’ll spend more in the shop. You and the team are otherwise doing well. :+1:

“thats what im saying can you read” yes i can read you dindt understand my comment not that im surpised

Ok what is wrong with you? buddy

last i remmember i dindt talk to you

To be honest it was kinda easy to see this happening.

If anyone thought of the scope of the Hero mission for a second it is just insane 32+ hero each with a talent trees at some point you want this to be balance that every hero is fun to play and not just a few to achieve the highest score. Thinking of every interaction between each new capacities between hero is a nightmare.

Sure it’s awfull to see something presented years ago as what to expect coming up being scratch up, but to me hero mission was the cherry on top on what I want from OW2. I want to know more about the lore, new story if in season 6 they deliver a satisfying experience great, awesome. If in the first drop a story mission we saw hint of what to expect coming up next, interesting mechanics (mostly thinking about something like destiny raid where some part you need to think and understand what’s happening to continue further).

Another thing sure Hero mission as it was presented is cancelled but I don’t think the team would throw years of work and doing nothing with it we might still get one shot event like starwatch with altered heroes capacities coming from the talent trees thought years before.

But one thing for sure I don’t want to say trust blindfully, Blizzard is on a really tight rope. For some the tipping point for leaving OW was years ago when the content was scare other when OW2 was announced/released. And it’s seems that a this announce was the last for them.

To me, I’m still looking for a game I enjoyed as much as OW, I try a lot fps, hero shooter for some time but at the end of the week I just want to play OW.

It’s painfull to say goodbye to something you love and I know if the story mission is simply bad/revamp from the archive but more cinematic. I would say goodbye with no regret and keep fond memories of my times I had until then.
