If anyone can find the comment Craig left on a post around the time OW2 released saying “PVE is not cancelled” I’d appreciate it. I saw someone quote it 4 days ago, and since searching the forums and his profile it seems the comment has been deleted unless I missed something, which would be scummy
Pretty sure they deleted all the “aged like milk” threads. Can’t be having people bringing up that they were hyping something that got cut can we?

“What have you been testing?”
They probably did, and probably because it was taken and ran with as much as possible.
Which is sad, because Craig was only putting down what he knew. and he probably did playtest the PvE because it technically is there. Dude has Winston cahones to come here and make public posts when no one else will. You gotta atleast give him that; wasn’t his fault upper management canceled the project.
The post in question is here.
Only Andy’s comment about PVE got deleted. Well, the entire thread that Andy posted on got deleted. Not to cover anything up (Because there is nothing to cover up) but rather because people were necroing it to throw mud at the wrong people.
Edit: Oh well there you go, it didn’t even get deleted.
All I got is this screenshot (replace x with h):

Pretty sure it was in this thread https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/kinda-worried-that-devs-are-not-hyping-june-16th-enough/
EDIT: I think I found it here: Kinda worried that Devs are not hyping June 16th enough - #53 by AndyB-11735
Apparently if you link the exact post number, it will show it.
2nd EDIT: My fault, this was from Andy, not Craig. Same circumstances however.
That’s what I was looking for thank you! So this was made Sept 22, the game released as 'Early Access" on October 4th. We have learned that the scrap happened 1 1/2 years ago. Even if it wasn’t fully scrapped early 2021, there’s no way they were still continuing on the PVE main gamemode Sept 2022, they already said it’s been scrapped at that point so Craig’s comment makes absolutley no sense anymore.
He even said “core PVE MODES” which I’m guessing he’s talking about Hero and Story missions. Which we have learned Hero missions were cancelled way before this post was ever written.
No, the hero missions were scrapped late last year. The “one and half years ago” comment was referring to them shifting strategy, i.e. decoupling the PVE and PVP.
So September could very well have been before the hero missions were cancelled. Or Craig could have been operating on faulty info. Or he also could have only been referring to the story missions. So this is not definitive evidence of lying. Innocent until proven guilty.
That wouldn’t make sense. They shifted strategies 1 1/2 years ago, why would they keep working on hero missions for an additional year when they already knew it was too much work? What would’ve they scrapped 1 1/2 years ago then? The hero missions come with the overall progression system, so in order for this to be true they would’ve had to release hero missions seasonally with progression systems for the hero and for the game in general.
AndyB aka AndyBGone definitely said “Then what have I been playtesting?” in response to me saying it had probably been scrapped. I too tried to find this (for my own thread) and it was conveniently gone.
They didn’t scrap anything one and a half years ago. One and a half years ago was when they decided they were going to release the PVP first and the PVE later.
I got you. It’s strange how it’s hidden when going to the thread without adding the post at the end of the URL
They decided to release PVP first in 2022, not 2021. 6 after they scrapped their big box office release, they announced PVP will come first then PVE. Another few months went by then the PVP released
They announced they were going to release PVP first in 2022. The decision was obviously made earlier than that internally.
This also checks out as the first CC dev meeting happened in December 2021, about one and a half years ago.
Well if the timeline matches up, then when they internally made the decision PVP was going to be released first, it would’ve been because they scrapped PVE. December 2021 was 1 1/2 years ago so it would fit the messed up timeline. So again, all these posts of community managers and everything since the decision, just aren’t true. “PVE is not cancelled” from Craig, is the same thing we heard in the most recent blog post by Aaron. So in reality he could’ve known about it and just used the false terminiology to make people think it’s not cancelled, in reality it is in more ways it’s not.
You can speculate all you like, but there’s no evidence of that. The interview with the “one a half years ago” comment is the same one that tells us the hero missions were scrapped late last year. It’s literally talked about in the next paragraph.
Then what other reason would they have to release the PVP that as “Early Access”. Again if they did scrap hero missions slightly before or after the release of OW2, then their plan would of have to been seasonal releases from the time they shifted strategies to the hero missions scrap (1 year duration), as the 1 1/2 year ago comment refers to their big box office game release not happening, basically it’s own game. So if that is true, the question would be why couldn’t they integrate all of this progression and hero missions over time? They are releasing story missions over time, so what would the issue be with releasing a select number of heros with small talent trees and building off of that overtime?
